    “Conditioning: 4 weeks at 12C”

Thanks for the info. His recipes are usually good, but I was staring at Brewfather thinking, that does not look right for a stout. I have another recommended oatmeal stout recipe from homebrewerassociation website which has a ton more roasted malts. Think i'll adjust the recipe a bit.

    “Conditioning: 4 weeks at 12C”

Sorry to regurgitate an old thread, but how was the Greg Hughes Oatmeal? Planning to brew it this weekend. Recipe seems very light coloured for a stout. Not much roasted barley. Almost dark ale.

    Wanted: Peroni Gran Riserva recipe

Im a big fan of Gran Riserva as well. My last brew was traditional bock by Greg Hughes. Stayed true to the recipe but used some W37/40 slurry for the yeast. I missed the OG by a few points but still it is a lovely beer. Keeps getting better as the weeks pass. I need to track down a bottle and do...

Good quality malt mill? - How much we need to spend to not get ripped off by poor quality products?

I spent £99 on my Bulldog mill from geb last year. Can't say I rate it at all. The rollers are not centred, so they oscillate. Impossible to set a gap because they are +- a mill on every rotation. Build quality is just **** for the price. If it was £40 I would still think the price a bit steep.

    Ferment temperature went crazy… ruined?

I had a similar temp issue. I had a free Saturday morning last weekend so knocked up a partial extract brown ale with what i had laying around. I pitched S-04 and it was the hottest day NI has ever experienced! Ferm temp peaked at 25C and never dropped below 21C, despite ice packs strapped to...

Bulldog mill with no adjustment knob

I've just opened my brand new bulldog mill from GEB. It has no adjustment knob and doesn't look like the picture. Just has two Philips heads for moving the rollers in and out. Can anyone with one comment if theirs is the same?

    Fermenting vessel heating

I've been using a heat belt since I've started kegging and the fridge is occupied. This is the 1st time I needed to wrap the bucket in a cosy blanket. It wouldn't go above 13C.

    Guiness Clone?

I have the Graham wheeler guiness clone fermenting now. I upped the grain bill a tad for a 4.3% beer. I Used some recovered yeast from my previous Irish red. Wyeast 1007 German Ale. Wanted something clean and dry, and Irish ale was all out of stock. The red is terrific btw so hoping for the...

Brewzilla thread to share knowledge, experiences and good practice

I'm laughing at this because I did that, blowing into the tube as hard as I could. I can only describe it as an eruption of boiling wort came at my face and spilled out over the floor. I didn't do that again. Haha.

Brewzilla thread to share knowledge, experiences and good practice

I done a brew today with no hop spider for the first time. Just chucked 66g of pellets in at 60. I was plagued with a clogged pump after that. Anyone else find this?

    Your favourite stout recipe?

The Graham Wheeler, British Real Ale has a Guinness Extra Stout that i'm going to brew shortly. Do you think he was being sarcastic with the one line description "World classic beer of enormous complexity and character". Given the recipe is the simplest of all the stouts / porters in the book...

Brewzilla thread to share knowledge, experiences and good practice

Brewfather always calculates my mash water at 22.2 which I discovered is too much. My efficiency was terrible. David heath video suggests 3x grain weight. So 5kg grain eq 15ltr of water. That seems low to me. I'm doing brew #3 tomorrow so I'm gonna try 19ltr. Anyone else have a magic mash...
