St Peter's Cream Stout (slightly pimped) advice required.

Liking the idea of smoked chips. I'm with you on the lactose. Thou only added 250g. I think another 250g mine would taste like a pudding stout.

The yeast might of not been to happy with the slightly hostile environment.

By March good luck with that. Did you rehydrate the yeast first?

I'm thinking it tastes pretty good at 11 days. Will probably follow your lead and ferment for another 5 days. I'm tempted to pitch some more yeast. My starting sg predicted about 8.5% looking at about 4.5 at the moment. I don't think the short brew time will stop me sampling at christmas.

I would be worried about making bottle boms. Have you been tempted to crack one open?

Hi, this is very simalar to what I'm finding . I agree with the slight marmite taste. 450g of black treacle sounds pungent. I went for 500g LME, 1/4 cup of black treacle and kit yeast. How long did you ferment in the end?

Well I took a hydrometer reading and its coming out about 1.028. Tastes quite fizzy, I've risen the temperature to 71f in hope of some movement. Wondering if I'm jumping the gun adding more yeast?

I did wonder this I'm pretty sure the kit only comes with 6g. I'll take a hydrometer reading and see where it stands. If it's still high I'll repitch with the wilko yeast. Would you rehydrate the yeast first? I did this with the kit yeast.

    Re: St Peters Cream Stout

I took a refractrometer reading and not a hydrometer reading which maybe why the fg is so high. I'll take both of those reading and see what the combined sg value turns out to be.

The yeast that came with the kit. I believe it's a Nottingham style one. I didn't add any nutrient thou.

    Re: St Peters Cream Stout

I recently purchased the st peters stout kit and 500g LME. The og was 1.065 and its been fermenting at 65f for so far 10 days. I took a reading at 7 days which showed 1.04 and another at 10 days showing 1.04. I added 250g of lactose after I took the og. Do you think the yeast could have stalled...
