First time brewing a Porter - Need help!

Hello guys, hope you'll are doing well. I am 6 months into this hobby and have brewed 3 Pale Ales which have ranged from disastrous to pretty bad. I now am eager to brew a Porter (1 Gallon). All the 3 brews I have done so far have been using the Brewers Friend Windows Software which has...

Mango addition - chunks or puree?

Sorry if I am super late to the party as I have been researching but unable to come to a conclusion. So I have some fresh mangoes (not frozen). I would like to add them to my beer in the Primary (not going for secondary). Yes I know I need to wait for vigorous fermentation to get over, So i...

Anybody use Nelson Sauvin hops with Orange Zest in a beer?

Brewed a beer using some Pils & Wheat malt I had at home and threw in some Orange Zest at Flameout. Used Magnum @60 for bittering. Yeast used was Dry Munton's Premium Ale yeast which started off vigorously but has slowed down since Day 2. I am brewing a 1 Gallon batch. Can I dry hop with some...

How much Lemongrass for a 5 Liter batch?

Guys, I'm planning to brew a Lemongrass IPA. Was wondering how much Lemongrass do I add? I'm planning to dump them @10mins during the boil. Also, is it okay if I clean the lemongrass stalks with tap water before i dump them in? No need to sanitize since they're going into the boil anyway right...

Need advice with this recipe for my 2nd Homebrew - A Saison

Don't know if i was going for it tbh. I'll just increase the hop count and maybe turn it into a Hoppy Wheat Ale haha. I'll stick to this thanks. That's alright. I have enough Ale yeast to last me a year or more Infact. Might get some saison yeast for my next brew from a brewer friend over...

Need advice with this recipe for my 2nd Homebrew - A Saison

Why do they always recommend dipping the zest in Vodka then? Maybe that is for addition during Fermentation. So I'll just rinse the oranges before zesting to remove any unwanted goop. How much zest for a 5L batch though approx? I'm assuming around 6-8 gms should be fine? Also, I am based in...

Need advice with this recipe for my 2nd Homebrew - A Saison

Sorry for the long hiatus cause I've been super caught up with work & family commitments. So, I was unable to source any Saison Yeast, so I guess I'll use my Muntons Ale Yeast. So I'm brewing an Ale now :laugh8: How do you sanitize Orange/Lemon Zest & Coriander Seeds?

Need advice with this recipe for my 2nd Homebrew - A Saison

Me again :) What is the fermentation temperature for Saisons? I've been told you start off at around 20C and keep ramping it up. Some guy even suggested going as high as 35 deg C!! What would you recommend?

Need advice with this recipe for my 2nd Homebrew - A Saison

Alright then. I'll increase the bittering Magnum by 1 gm to reach about 31 IBUs. Just feel like I'd like the beer to have a nice bitter dry finish along with all the spicyness from the additions & the yeast. Fingers crossed now. Looking forward to brew this , this weekend. Shall keep you posted...

Need advice with this recipe for my 2nd Homebrew - A Saison

Alright, so if I have to add these hops at 1min before end of boil, do I let the Wort steep so as to allow some isomerization of the hops? Or do I start chilling immediately?

Ooh very interesting. I'm gonna try this! Would I still need the salt additions if I use 1 part tap water?

Yeah I guess a 7% abv sounds just about right for me as well. I'm making 5Litres, 4 litres of which go into making others taste the damn beer True true. I don't want an overpowering presence of spice. Yup. 1gm each of both was my estimate as well. Some people suggest Epsom too right? Any...

Need advice with this recipe for my 2nd Homebrew - A Saison

Hi Steve, thanks for that! Yeah I too am quite interested to see how Munich would affect this. All the Saisons I've had from brewpubs almost never have any Munich in them. Ooh. Thanks for that! I will keep the mash temps at around 64 degrees C. Although changing that parameter on Brewers...

Need advice with this recipe for my 2nd Homebrew - A Saison

Hello guys, I was looking to make a Saison with the ingredients I have.. well basically a Saison because a Saison yeast is the only yeast I have right now  Anyway, I know a Saison is traditionally not made out of Pale Ale malt, but I'm still gonna use it and see how it turns out. So this...

Question about Bottle Conditioning in my first-ever Homebrew

Hello guys, So my first ever BIAB homebrew, which is a 5L Citra IPA is in bottling now for around 36 hours. This morning I saw some bubbles on the surface of the beer. I am using swing top bottles and at a temperature of around 19-20 degrees C. I hit my OG perfectly, which was around 1.05. But...
