Quick HLT heating and external wort boiling (Calandria?)

Been mulling this one over for a while. I noticed ADMs RIMS system on Jims and thought it would be a nice solution. However, after I got one of the Willis immersion heaters the cartridge heater I used for my RIMS system came up at a bargain price. So I now have one of these laying about...

    Slow ferment

Hi All, First brew of the year last weekend. have got 55L of 1046 wort and 3.5 days in it has only dropped to 1028, I usually see quite quick ferments as I pitch 3 satchets into this amount of beer. this time I rehydrated 2x us05 + 2x nottingham both kept in the fridge since last Nov (us05...

    RIMS

I decided after my last brew (ages ago due to work, et al) that my HERMS system based on a 10L burco was too much faffing around and too big. So...... I happened across a 1kw waltlow firestick cartridge heater on the Bay of E for £25 and then bought the bit's to go around it from BES. Now...

2010 THBF Pint Glass Slogan Competition!

How's about a (Swiss) THBF Army Pint Pot: Feck test frame as previously suggested. Pint mark 500g (or however much a pint of grain is) mark Same for hops in 10g increments ml scale for water/CRS/etc and a suggested ml of water per satchet of yeast mark. This way you could use it throughout...

I think i've figured out my herms problem

When using my HERMS I always have problems with air being sucked in at the Tun end/low output flow - tis fine with water, but with a mash it's really struggles. I think I've figured out why...... My H/E coil is 10m of 8mm copper, now that's gonna cause some pressure differentials :wha: I'm...

    Out of date ale

Hi All, I bought some out of date 'Rogue' Shakespear Stout & American Amber. Best before seems to be late 2004. It's bottled conditioned and worth the 70p a bottle just for the 650cl bottles IMO. Anyhow, will crack open one of each tonight in the chatroom - should be interesting. :cheers...

    Ribcage Chiller

Hi All, Just thought i'd let you know the results from my new ribcage chiller which I built today. It's a take on this But made out of 25m of 10mm + about 3m of 15mm for the legs/feeds. it also differs in that the cold feed goes down to the bottom and splits from there, the exits are at the...
