    Malty Sweetness

I like to brew and drink lagers. My usual grain bill is simply lager malt and carapils for head retention. I’ve recently being sampling a fair number of craft brewed lagers and many have a notable malty sweetness and aroma which is absent from my bees. I’d like to try and introduce this to my...

    When is it really finished?

My latest batch of lager appears to have finished fermenting at day 4 (pressurised fermentation at 20C). This is my first batch using an ispindel to measure the fermentation and the reported gravity has been constant (at target FG) for 24 hours. My normal practice is to leave it for 10 days then...

    Stir plate

I’ve got this 12v geared motor, rated at 300 rpm. Just wonder if this is fast enough? It has plenty of torque so that shouldn’t be a problem. The attached plug has variable voltage so I can slow it down if required. just need to find some parts to attach the magnets to the drive shaft and get a...

    Lager malt or Pilsner Malt

I've been brewing a few lagers lately and I've been pleased with the results (it the future!!) - the latest batch made with flake maize is particularly promising, really crisp! I've been using lager malt, as it's cheaper than Pilsner - is there really that much difference between the two? For...

With Father’s Day approaching I’ve been dropping some hints, but it would be helpful if anyone has a discount code? @Inkbird

    Camden Hells Recipe

Morning All, Does anyone have a clone recipe for Camden Hells that they can share? They list the following on their website; Bavarian Lager yeast, Perle and Hallertau Tradition hops and our own special house Pilsner malt from Bamberg (we’re one of the only two breweries outside Germany to use...

Fermenter King - When to add the spunding valve?3

The first brew in my snub nose is underway. I'm using a blow off tube as an airlock, but I want to naturally carbonate this beer towards the end of fermentation, but I'm unsure when to add the spunding valve? I brewed on Sunday, from what I've read day 4 is the time to add it. Does this sound...

    Too much water in mash.

Brewing now. Full volume mash. Should have been 48l but I mashed with 54l (mis-read the total volume including grain). Aiming for 42l in fermenter. 9.2 kg grain bill.1.049 target OG. Should I do a 90 min boil instead of the 60 mins planned to reduce the volume? Might help lose another 1.5l? I...

Sparkling Water in a corny keg

I want to use one of my cornies for sparkling water. For those who do this what PSI do you use? I presume the water keeps ok for a while due to the PH? Thanks

Inkbird ITC 308 wi-fi probe cable extension

I need to extend the probe cable length, is it as simple as splicing in a extra length of wire? Has anyone done this? What cable do I need? I’m happy soldering and heat shrinking the wires together. Thanks

    Brewing outside in low temperatures

I’m a time poor home brewer, but I have time to brew this week, but I brew outside and can’t get the motivation with it being so cold. Anyone brewing outside in the uk at the moment?

    Double batch brew

Having a young family means time is at a premium so I want to maximise my brew days by scaling up to 42L (2 cornies). My kettle is 70L and I’ve bought a new 47L cool box to up-size my mashtun. My brew fridge will take two 30l fermentation buckets, so I think I have everything covered. Do any of...

    Tesco craft beer discounts

I don’t know if this has been posted already - Tesco’s are discounting a lot of the 440ml NEIPA etc to £2 this week. Nice opportunity to sample a few different ones 😀

    Mash tun capacity

I've got a 32L Thermos Coolbox that I use as a mashtun. Up to now I have done 23L brews with no problem. I'd like to do a larger batch size (ideally 40L) to fill two corny kegs, but I don't think I could manage the grain bill in this mash tun. How do I calculate the maximum size I can do -...

    Brew length for a Corny?

As per the title I’m looking for the right brew volume to fill a Corny without too much waste. Given Cornies are 19L, I think 20-21l to account for leaving the yeast trub etc in the FV I just want the be efficient without wasting beer wink... My cornies are breeding,1 has become 5!

    Low temperature fermentating lager kit?

Hi All, I’m looking for some advice on picking a lager kit to accompany a Coopers European lager that I intend to start later today. I have space in my brew fridge for two FV’s , as I understand it the Coopers kit comes with lager yeast and should be fermented at 13-15c. So I’m looking for...
