    the return of the prodigal

Not really an introduction ,more a notice of return ..... .....after a vehicle incident I sustained serious injuries that lead to stroke and wheelchairs and all sorts of boring malarky.....but now the Shocker is back ....somewhat less shocking and the worse for wear but with a nice gaff near...

Coopers Draught kit avec fiddling .

Sorry for the wait folks ,I was interrupted by being evicted by the very same landlord that I was brewing for while contemporaneously being hit by a 42tonne lorry half a mile from my front gate ,rolling my pride and joy top of the range (when built!) discovery three times ,writing it off and...

burglar in pants-only in the west country .....

Hey Rob ! Its good to be back ! I have been snowed under with heavy duty elderly parent stuff that had me seriously depressed and worn out physically . Its not that its gone away now , more that I have come to terms with it . Still , I am NEVER accepting invitations into neighbours houses from...

burglar in pants-only in the west country .....

Last time I saw this bloke he was sitting in the back of a Bedford CF van (a mark against straightaway there!) huffing the nitrous oxide from industrial cream-whipper cartridges . Seems he has gone up in the world

For the insulation , Screwfix and Toolstation are as good as any . That or buy mylar sheet and glue it to bubblewrap or thin foam yourself , even camping mat - easier than it sounds . Ebay for the mylar from , ahem , hydroponics suppliers

Would this still be good to use?

The hardware ? Using much older stuff regularly . The ingredients ? Likewise ....but with care ! Like cracking a suspect egg into a cup before adding it to a whole pan of ingredients , decant a little of the old stuff into a trial vessel before adding to bulk . Obviously some stuff does not...

    malt

I have been using it to make up yeast breeding worts - its nice and easy in a jar that you can take spoonfuls out of , not having the worry of a bloody gurt big tin open when you want a tiny bit or the spraymalt sticky lump syndrome....seems to work alright for what I have used it for , dont...

    Dave Line recipe question

Ahhh yes , the old DL-wildly-optimistic-efficiency-and-yield issue   ....had forgotten all about that in the yeast ponderings....but I must say that , even though it is glaringly obvious to everyone else , I have only just started to consider the role that yeasts have in the final...

    malt

Whereas plain tinned , brewing malt syrup is made by making a mashed wort then concentrating by evaporation or similar . Some of the wholefood malt extracts are what used to be called Barley Syrup and are made by some arcane chemical means , or so I believe . Teaching , grandmother , eggs ...

    Sweetening whilst carbonating in bottles?

Moley , with the greatest possible respect , the statement I made was based on what I have gathered here on this site . The general thrust , when this subject has come , up has been that sulphite will stun a yeast and not kill or stop it , that sorbate is needed . I , however , am glad to be...

    Dave Line recipe question

    Dave Line recipe question

Guessing here...but I would think a lot of stout yeasts would be aiming to add the dry character of the more popular guiness type...interesting question this :hmm:
