    Anyone used Brewathome.shop?

Just an update, I finally received a call from them today and was able to collect my order. They'd just been overwhelmed by bank holiday demand in their other business. The guy seemed nice and we had a good chat about stuff. Even though this time hasn't been straightforward, it happens to the...

That's great to hear. Thanks. Hopefully they'll reply to my messages/order soon then 🤞

    Anyone used Brewathome.shop?

Email, phone and even Facebook, (which I stopped logging into a few years ago). The only thing I haven't done is turn up at their door. I'm hoping they've taken an impromptu holiday and forgot to put on an OoO message reply ☹️

    Anyone used Brewathome.shop?

Hello. Has anyone used Brewathome.shop in Barnsley before? I ask as I placed a click and collect for some hobbybrew gas a few days ago and haven't heard a peep from them since. I like to give businesses the benefit of the doubt where I can, so I'm hoping someone will chip in to say they deal...

Low alcohol beer and how to brew advise required (Diabetes)

Alcohol does drop blood sugar, temporarily, but then sugar reserves are released from the liver later, which can cause a 'bounce' of blood sugar levels. I'm type 1 myself, and tend to lean towards drier and lower abv, in combination if I can. It just so happens these are the kinds of beers I...

Is Tesco Ashback water still a good option?

In fact, this info is really useful. Thanks again. After running it though brewers friend, it make s a lot of sense. The calculator there states unfettered water is fine for bitter brews, and explains why the softer water from the filter would suit the malty/yeasty ones better. I think I'll...

Is Tesco Ashback water still a good option?

Small world indeed! 😊 Thanks for that info. I'm sure I'll put it to good use at some point.

Is Tesco Ashback water still a good option?

I think a lot depends on which side of Sheffield you're on. I used to live on the Peaks side (Nether Green) and the water was soft there. Now living in Handsworth, on the other side, we have to use a Brita Filter to keep the kettle from gradually furring up. For my brews, I tend to use...

    Brewing with Motueka

To be honest, I'm a bit scatter-gun in my approach, probably as I'm still learning. I had brewed one (Mosaic and Citra) with much less dry hopping previously, and it barely tasted of anything, so I think this was knee-jerk reaction to that. I had read somewhere 8g/l is about the limit for...

    Brewing with Motueka

I have a pale hopped with equal part Motueka and Ekuanot conditioning. At the moment, it tastes a bit like a hoppy posh cloudy lemonade. Motueaka are quite lemony. athumb.. Kiwi Pale (American Pale Ale) Original Gravity (OG): 1.047 (°P): 11.7 Final Gravity (FG): 1.012 (°P): 3.1 Alcohol...

Busy times from home brew shops

Just a couple of things folks might find useful... Brewing Sugar is Dextrose... I've bought myself a 4kg bag, meant as a supplement for bodybuilding. It's still Dextrose and was cheaper than 'brewing' sugar (much like a cake is more expensive when you say it's for a wedding!) For bottles and...

    Can opener

I've had a Magican can opener, since leaving home about 25 years ago, and it works great. You can still pick them up for only a few quid.

using s30 cylinder tonpurge bottling bucket?

the idea with bottling bucket would not be for it to be completely sealed, as I said before, as the co2 'should' form a blanket over the beer as it's dispensed if the venting into the bucket is gradual/not agitated edited due to terrible phone autocorrect nightmares!

using s30 cylinder tonpurge bottling bucket?

I really like this idea. Thanks! it wouldn't take all that much to modify the keg. shame mine is a top tap though... but if I can regulate the pressure by loosening/tightening the lid (or just leaving it, as it doesn't hold pressure for long!) then I should be able to get a smooth pour into...

using s30 cylinder tonpurge bottling bucket?

yes, I know. I thought of using an airlock on the lid, but so long as there's enough venting to allow air to drift in slowly, there shouldn't be much agitation and the c02 should stay pooled on the floor (which will be the decreasing level of beer). Sorry if I wasn't clear by what I meant by...

using s30 cylinder tonpurge bottling bucket?

Not permanently, no. but I think I'd have enough time to fill the bucket with the lid loosely attached and carefully seal it. Even at room temperature, co2 will stay below the air unless it is mixed by agitation. Think of dry ice and how the vapour moves though a room. Those fancy cocktails...

using s30 cylinder tonpurge bottling bucket?

Hello. I currently have a Hambleton Bard s30 co2 cylinder that's pretty full, as the king keg I bought it for doesn't hold any pressure (believe me, I've tried everything with the keg!). As I'm happy bottling and have purchased a bottling bucket, I thought it might be a good idea to spray some...

    Hello from Sheffield!

Thanks for the warm welcome I tried another of the bottles from the Young's New World Saison again tonight... it was really lovely. I'm really surprised you can get such a dry, yet fresh and complex tasting beer from a kit. I can strongly recommend it worth a go, and I think it would be...

    Hello from Sheffield!

Rather than lurk, I thought I'd sign up and say hello! I'm a novice home brewer from Sheffield. My first brew was almost a complete disaster, with half in a pressure keg, that doesn't hold pressure tasting like a heady mix of disinfectant and cardboard! I filled 17 bottles as well, and...
