    counter pressure bottle filler

Folks, Is there a consensus on what pressure folk find best for CPBFs? I recently bought a CPBF from a well known known on line auction site. It was made in 304 stainless and came from Malaysia - £23 ish. Despite the quality components it's been a bit of a mare. Almost every joint leaked...

    Extract plum porter

It'll be malt extract, "kit" with DME added, and dry hopped. I planned on using prune juice - despite others being shot down for the same suggestion.

    What are cask ales?

I know it's a matter of preference and personal taste, but I find cask beers to be a bit of an 'excuse' to serve warm, flat and usually 'off' beer. We seem to have been convinced that this is how beer is supposed to be. I'm sure that properly cared for cask ales are perfectly good but I've...

    Mango IPA

Folks, I'm looking at doing a mango IPA using mango juice - finely pulped mango from what I can tell. Any advice on volumes of juice for a 40 pint brew? I really want the mango to come through. Am planning on adding it at the priming stage (or just before depending on sugar content)...

Connecting my Tetley smooth flow pump

I''m planning on connecting my ball-locks using the FFL-3/8" JG fitting from the Malt Miller, then a reducing elbow (to keep the total height down) to 3/16" line then up to the pump. I have now found a reducing elbow on-line from Aquacure in Southport. Thanks all

Thanks for that I've been waiting for Wilko doing likewise - the wine was on offer before Christmas but not the beer! Stocked up! Col P.

Connecting my Tetley smooth flow pump

Folks, I have a Tetley smooth flow pump with a 3/16 " push fit socket. I'm looking for a 1/4" BSPF to 3/16" (or 3/8" and I'll reduce for the tap) adapter for the outlet of my Corney keg set up. Trawled Ebay but no joy. Can anyone suggest a likely outlet? Slainte Col P.

    Kefir beer from scratch

Folks, I started the Kefir off with sugar water to 'bring them around' after their cold trip in the post. They have taken sometime to get going, but I have now moved the first lot onto DME and sucrose. The 'beer' is pleasantly fizzy but obviously nothing like beer - more 'pop' than beer...

    The Very Friendly Indian Man

You are lucky he was friendly, 2 weeks ago I was threatened by one of those calls - they can now 'target' your number if you kick off. Sure enough we've been plagued by them.....I've just blocked all with-held numbers now, sick of it. Col P.

    Wilko 12L Stock Pot...isnt 12L

Their jam pan instructions say 'do not wash' and 'not suitable for a dishwasher' - it' s solid stainless steel for Pete's sake! Customer services are hopeless too. Col P.

    Kefir beer from scratch

folks, I'm about to start a kefir beer with some water kefir grains (2 Tablespoons / 50 g). What starting quantities should I use? The grains will replicate with each successive batch but it may take a while to get up to the 40 pint batch size! I'm just going to start with some DME...

how do i clean out my glass demijohns safely ?

folks, I struggled with bottles in particular. In the end I borrowed a trick that the bottle collectors use. I bought a bag of stainless steel shot that the bottle collectors and jewellers use in tumbling barrels for polishing bottles dug out of old landfills and stones. The shot is a...

    Beer losing its head

Folks, I hate flat, headless beer, so over a number of years I've tried a range of things. The best solution from an ingredients perspective is to add a whole pack of WHEAT DME and some liquorice root powder - I add two good heaped desert spoonfuls in light beers and a bit more in the...

    pump tap push fits

I now have a selection of pump taps. The four taps have a selection of three different sizes of push fit connectors in the back namely 1/4, 5/16 and two 3/8. I know there is some rationale for different pipe diameters depending on the beer and distance from the keg but I want to...

    Sankey keg coupler spares

I've contacted MicroMatic in Lancashire, but as yet no one has picked up the email. I'll ring them next week if I don't hear. Someone out there must be doing seals - Kegworks do a kit for US couplers but the customer review wasn't great and the postage and duty is overboard. Will keep trying.
