    sorry its taken as long to get back to yous about this ale been very busy ,it turned out better than expected tasted the same as the shop bought stuff and a would defo make it again very good recipe ,sorry no photos did take some but have misplaced the camera :doh:

    no updates as yet, its bottled and carbonated needs another few weeks to condition before sampling one bottle but when i intend to drink it at new year it will have been conditioning for 10 weeks so should taste better,will let you know how it tastes :thumb:

    i know its a post back from the dead but just got round to brewing this lasr week all went well,fermenting away nicely,will let you know how it tastes when its bottled and conditioned :cheers:

    was wondering what is the best method for temp control during the mashing process with BIAB as my keggle looses a lot of heat even although it is insulated?,was wondering if an stc100 wired up to the heating elementswould work as you could set it at 66c and let it do its magic ,any other ideas...

    cool ,must have been writing that while i was writing this post as i had already looked at that one ,but not to worry it all worked out in the end just going to take hydro reading 2wks into fermentation .

    once the lager has fermented out would it be best to transfer to another FV for the lagering process or leave it in the same one ,and once its lagered i take it you bottle it and then just move it some where warm for a couple of weeks like normal? :thumb:

    probably not as much as i should have ,i think between the not stirring enough and the short mash time of 60mins ,there lies my problem ,it wont happen again ,i am just waiting on a 25kg of pale malt and i will be brewing again with all this rectified.thanks again for all the suggestions as its...

    yeah a think its one to the learning curve,will mash for longer next time,hopefully this cures it.

    kept a close eye on it ranged between 64-67 using one element to top up when heat dropped to low ,still think it just wasnt mashed for long enough.

    have just taken an other sample and put the hydrometer in at room temp and its reading 1040 now so the temp must have been out but still not what i expected,have just pitched yeast and am starting the fermentation /lagering process,so into the temp controlled fridge it goes.

    30ltr just what beersmith said for a 23ltr finished brew length,first time i have used beersmith so dont know if it any good

    thanks all for the replies ,checked everything twice and adjusted for temp on hydrometer,all i can think of is that the mash was not long enough and would need 120-150 mins to mash as the grain bill is 6kg :cheers:

    hi did a brew today with 3kg of lager malt, 3kg pale malt, mashed at 66 degrees for 60 mins, boiled for 60min ,took the sg 1034 ,does this sound about right as i was thinking it was a bit low ,did the recipe on brew smith and i think i have cocked it up somehow but cant think how, any help...

    yeah 10watts is more than enough if you work it out,cant remember the exact formula but when i was doing my keggle i worked it all out and the 10w one was ok,if it aint ok then a guess somebody will be along to tell me different ;)

    very nice,good idea if your going to a party or bbq and you dont want to lug 24 bottles with you ,mmmhh worth a closer look maybe make a few for myself. :thumb:
