    The Homemade Pizza Thread

The oven is too hot. Specifically the stone is hotter than it needs to be. I find anything over 500’C difficult to manage on my Ooni and get exactly the results you describe until I bring my temperature down. I’m not familiar with how your oven works. Do you build a fire and then drag out the...

    Container for no chill brewing

As the article says, their ‘can be’ drawbacks to not chilling wort quickly, however it also states these can be mitigated. If you’re only doing 12L and have kegs, the make an ideal fermenting vessel. By pouring the hot wort directly into your keg post-boil you’ll also be safely sanitising the FV.

Using confectionery with beer kits (also kit questions)

In terms of what you’re adding to your beer, the sweets are going to be mainly sugar, which will dissolve and slightly increase the ABV of your brew, as well as some flavouring and citric acid to make them sour. You won’t get the clarifying effects from gelatine, as they are vegetarian and...

    Heat pad fermentation chamber

Hey @Brewster21, it looks as though you’ve had some good feedback already. Just wanted to come in to say I use a seedling heat mat in my fridge, laid directly on the floor of the fridge without any issues. I ferment in a keg, with a rubberised base, so am not worried about sitting it in top of...

Recommendations for the next step up from a BrewZilla v3.1.1

That was really helpful to read - thanks for taking the time to discuss the B40. The main thing I’m trying to improve upon from the BrewZilla is really the cleaning and would love to hear feedback from someone who owns a BT system. Do you need to do anything aside from attaching the CIP and...

Recommendations for the next step up from a BrewZilla v3.1.1

Hey very exciting news! I’m sure I’m not the only one who would love to hear your thoughts once you’ve got a couple of brews down.

Recommendations for the next step up from a BrewZilla v3.1.1

Thanks for the recommendation - I have spent some time today having a look at this option. It looks amazing! I’m not quite sure how to use it however, as I have only used three-vessel systems and AIOs. I presume it’s fairly similar to something like the BrewZilla but with more replaceable/sturdy...

Recommendations for the next step up from a BrewZilla v3.1.1

Hey @Pennine, I agree - the lack of bottom tap is a concern in case the pump inlet blocks. Otherwise it looks like a nice bit of kit. It just seems rather pricey!

Recommendations for the next step up from a BrewZilla v3.1.1

Good plan - I had mentally dismissed it due to the experience of my G30, but will take another look. It does deal with all my issues. Thanks for the nudge!

Thanks Braumeister - I always wondered what those coils were like to clean. Is it just a case of getting a stiff brush/coil around the element?

Recommendations for the next step up from a BrewZilla v3.1.1

Thanks Captain - I think you may have misunderstood my post. I very much appreciate cleaning is part of brewing, and am happy with ChemSan and ChemClean. The issue I have is that I don’t want to have to physically lift my brewer as I have managed to slip a disc, which is not the most fun I have...

Recommendations for the next step up from a BrewZilla v3.1.1

Hi everyone, I am looking for a solution to address a couple of ‘ease of use’ issues with my BrewZilla 35L, and wondered if you lovely people could help me? My budget is £2k, but if I can get away with spending as little as possible on shiny things and put more of that into ingredients to brew...

Ways of eliminating oxygen contact when dry hopping

@FirebladeAdam it works very well. One issue is had when I first started experimenting with the technique is that the magnet I was using was not strong enough, and my hip bag got knocked off too easily. I have since increased the strength of the magnet I use and it’s been great. No accidental...

Ways of eliminating oxygen contact when dry hopping

I ferment in a keg, mainly as I want to minimise exposure to oxygen following fermentation and during packaging. I have two methods I currently use. One is more faff but gives more control of the dry-hopping process, but the jury’s still out as to whether it’s worth the extra effort! 1. The...

    First yeast starter for tomorrow

Good photos! I’d make a starter from that if it was me, only because the volume looks smaller than I would like for a typical 20L batch.

    Brewing lager in corny

The best thing I can suggest @Broken Toe is to set your regulator to 20psi and shoot a little CO2 back down your beer disconnect. That should fix most blockages from the uptake side. Are you using a floating beer tube with a filter or a standard cut dip tube?
