    Youngs American IPA

Thanks to you both. Young’s replied to the email I sent yesterday and they suggested giving the brew a stir, checking again on Saturday and adding hops if still he same reading. I think I might do a bit of both, for better or worse; that is give it a stir this evening and add the hops in the...

    Youngs American IPA

Thanks terrym. Hydrometer has been check and is good. The kit comes with a large bag of sugar plus the small bag for priming. I added 750g of the large bag only. I’ll take your advice and add the hops this evening and take a reading at the weekend. Cheers

    Youngs American IPA

Hi, I’m new to this forum or more accurately signed up a while back and forgot I did because I’ve been out of the game for a while. Apologies if it’s annoying when someone hijacks a thread, so put me straight if need be. Anyhow, I need some guidance for my Young’s American IPA. I do know...

    Finlandia Kit v Coopers

Interesting thread Dermy. My local shop is selling a few Findlandia lager and bitter kits for £7 clearout. I'm thinking on trying either or both with 1kg DME and small quantity of dextrose. I like to get a bargain and add quality additions. Personally, I'm torn between enjoying this hobby...

Is this meant to taste so good??

I've read good reviews about the Cooper's Stout and the Edme Irish Stout. Which is better? There's only one way to find out - FIGHT! :drink:

    Slow fermentation? Help please

Thanks for your reply bobsbeer, feel better already. Edme Irish Stout is a one tin kit and I added two 454g jars of Holland and Barrett liquid malt and 400g Billington's dark brown unrefined sugar with 21 litres of water, and would like to think it'll be about 4.5%. Never used unrefined sugar...

    Slow fermentation? Help please

I'd really appreciate some guidance on my current brew, an Edme Irish Stout. It's been in the fv for 10 days now at about 18 - 19C. First hydrometer reading today is 1.016. I've ditched the instructions so don't know if this is usual but its definately taking longer to ferment than other beers...

    irish stout.

candyman and lagerlout, I'd be very interested in knowing how your end product turns out. I intend to do an Edme Irish Stout and have some black treacle. I went off the idea when a few brewers mentioned how the black stuff over-powers the taste and they recommended priming with dextrose only...

    Declining FG!

thanx scottm and jonnymorris, just checked without my glasses on (I'm short-sighted) and it's nearer 1004 so I'll probably bottle tomorrow. Interested in what you say about leaving for 2 weeks jonnymorris, is this regardless of the reading being constant for 3 days? What's your rationale for...

    Declining FG!

Bit worried about my brew, a Coopers Dark Ale started 10 June. 500g DME, 454g jar of H&B malt extract, 300g dextrose and 20l water, 1040 OG. Thought I was ready to bottle tomorrow because hydrometre reading has been 1004 for 2 days but today is 1002. i) This sounds very low to me and ii) I...

    Ordering online

I used Home Brew Shop in Aldershot for my last order, though in the end I saved postage because I happened to be in aldershot for the day, so picked it up from their shop. They were helpful in getting my order ready for collection. Prices for the kits I wanted were cheaper than most but might...

    25C Brewing :(

Upon reading this thread on Monday, and thinking "Oh ****, my Bock has been 24C since Sunday night!", I put the FV into a plastic storage crate with water and wrapped a wet towel around the fv held on by a bungee. Also have been putting in a new ice pack in daily and so far it's been keeping at...

    Bulk priming question

My 2nd brew out of 4 was a coopers pilsner. I batch primed using 9g brewing sugar per litre. I wanted to make sure I had good carbonation and head, considering my 1st brew didn't have enough of either (due to capping problem). However, after 7 weeks since bottling, the lager is too fizzy with a...

    quick advice on Bock strength

you're right zgoda, what was I thinking. I might use some of this black stuff on a Coopers Dark Ale. Cheers again

    quick advice on Bock strength

Brilliant advice, cheers. I have 500g of light DME and 454 HB liquid malt and if I use 20l, you would imagine 5% ish, so with 23l it'll a bit weaker. I also picked up a tin of tate and lyle black syrup to use on something, some day though would imagine even a small quantity might spoil a...

Can anybody else (or you zgoda, if you take check in again) give an opinion on this please? Cheers

    quick advice on Bock strength

thanx zgoda, so more sugar for a more typical bock? The instructions say 1kg sugar or 50/50 sugar/spraymalt with 23l and I was looking for a full bodied bock without so much strength as a traditional (hence added malt) but might go stronger if there's a risk of spoiling it. You said "watery"...
