    Mead....what honey to use

I've brewed honeyed ale on and off for years! You can spend a fortune on honey but is it worth it? IMO no its not! I've dabbled with expensive stuff but realised the end result had little or no taste difference from Tescos blue stripey 99p stuff. So it doesnt warrent the cost. My last batch I...

    Woodfordes, Sundew Review

I did a Wherry as my filler easy kit for the bottles I got off a m8. Never expected much really! I was suprised how good it is. After two weeks I had a taster and it was nice but after two months it's a cracker well worth the praise ;) I gave my m8 several bottles and he loved it! After drinking...

    Saxon Honey Ale

I made a batch of 5 gallons of this few months back. It definitely got better with age I laid it aside for 1 month before I tried it. It was very drinkable! About the two month mark it was improving nicely and even more drinkable! After three months it was gorgeous but only had a gallon or so...

Kegs for ease of use ;) I love my king keg top taps! Bottles for quality. Pain in the butt to fill but easier to keep cool. I tend to use both :drink:

    Still water in pet bottles

I use 1 litre bottles all the time. My rule is if it comes with fizzy drinks in it, it's ok to use. Never had a problem yet ;) :drink:

How do you cool/chill your kegs?

I put my top tap kegs in those big plastic buckets you get from garden centres. Partially fill with water and then use about 4/6 frozen 2 litre bottles. They stay frozen quite along time and if you can keep a few in the freezer to rotate with thawed ones it does the job nicely. :drink:

    Cleaning Manky DJs

Eggshells and bicarbonated soda do a marvellous job. Was a tip for cleaning thermos flasks and it works a treat. I always wash the eggshells first just to make sure no extra nastiest are added :thumb: Cheers :drink: PJ

    Made today Saxon Honey Ale!

I found my copy of Traditional beer and cider making by Ian Ball a few weeks back and Ive decided to try some of my old faves. So today I made 5 gallons of Saxon honey ale. Took ages and the cost of 1.5k of pure honey has gone up a bit since 1990 but as far as I remember it's well worth it...
