    Trouble capping my bottles

I use a 5 mil eye dropper to measure dissolved sugar into my bottles, and then siphon the beer on top. cap immediately and then move to a warm dark place for at least 2 weeks to secondary ferment, move to a cool place and allow to mature a little before trying. The stronger the beer the longer...

The Range- Make Your Own Home Brew, IPA Review

I have recently had 2 of these kits not clear, they retain a slight haze. but having said that still taste good and the haze has no effect on taste. wonder if short cuts are being taken in manufacture.

    Pressure Barrels

you may need new rubber seals for the tops and taps, Brown barrels are actualy better than white ones, white ones let in light which can taint the beer, the down side to brown ones is you cant see how much is left. Wilkinsons do a pressure cap

    firkin conditioning

real ale should not be cold as in refrigerated. if your garage floor is concrete just put the barrel on the floor, to bring it down to a cool temperature, These very cold beers that are sold in some pubs are cold to hide something, your tongue is fooled by the cold and actually mises that there...

    Do I need 2 boilers ?

I have 2, a 26 litre HLT and a 40 litre for boiler, you can manage with one, but with 2 you can be sparging and starting the boil at the same time, just be mindfull of the amperage you are pulling with 2 running at the same time, my HLT is on the garage circuit while the boiler is on the kitchen...

    Sparg water temp

I use 76 as my temp in the HLT which drops to about 66/67 in the mash, and also use 76 for sparging, saves resting the thermostat. I knew there was a reason for not going higher (tannin's) but had forgotten. thanks

priming bottles with malt extract rather than sugar?

The professionals use about 10ml of the next wort that is about half way through fermenting, this gives you a large volume of gas but a small amount of yeast, to prime the bottles, I have tried it a few times and it works, the only draw back is you need 2 brews very close together, and for this...

The Range- Make Your Own Home Brew, IPA Review

I like these kits, although the lager is a bit insipid. my favorite way is to a bag of youngs beer enhancer and about 500 gms of dextrose, this should have about 8.5% alcohol when finished, let it sit for a while before drinking

    Gah! Worth a rescue attempt?

learn from this and keep a few spare washers and a couple of taps, but having said that as long as it has not let oxygen into the barrel it should be ok, whats it taste like?
