    BRY-97 dark colour

Hi all, I've just used a pack of BRY-97 in a pale ale, and was surprised how dark the yeast was when I hydrated it. Has anyone else experienced this or is there something wrong with the packet? Cheers

    Using counterflow chiller with brewzilla

Hi, I've recently bought a grainfather counterflow chiller for use with my brewzilla. However the connections aren't the same. I have bought a camlock fitting which has arrived but the barb is too big for the silicone tube. Has anyone done the conversion successfully and could let me know what...

    Fermenting wherry under pressure

Hi all. In a bid to fill some kegs I've got a wherry on the go. It's in my pressure fermenter at ambient pressure. Just wondered if anyone has fermented a wherry kit under pressure and higher temperature? I am happy to leave as is, or experiment with upping the pressure. Any thoughts?

    Raspberry stout/porter

Hi all, I have grown a lot of raspberries this year and they have filled up the freezer! The missus has requested a stout or porter to be brewed, so I am planning on brewing a raspberry one. I've searched the net and have a few ideas on recipes but wondered what others have done in the past...

    Using starsan with wine bottles

Hi all, I've been brewing wine kits for quite a few years now, and have always used starsan to sanitise the wine bottles prior to bottling. Is this an OK thing to do? I've never had an issue with the taste but I seem to remember reading somewhere that the phosphates in the starsan aren't the...

    W34/70 not packing down

I've got a peroni clone which is cold crashing before kegging, but the yeast doesn't seem to be packing down very well. Its W34/70. I've not had this before, is it normal for this yeast? Anything I can do to help it pack down before kegging? Thinking I'll either pull some across into the keg or...

    Greg Hughes Altbier

Hi all, Planning on brewing a Greg Hughes Altbier recipe this weekend. I have a question about the amount of hops used. He suggests using 100g Spalt select for the boil, then another 100g split at the end of the boil. Question is 100g hops at the start of the boil seems a lot. I know it is...

    KegThat great service

Just a quick message to thank Ben for his great service. Won a hop raffle a few weeks ago, but never received the hops. Quick email to Ben and he got a second package sent out which I received today. Cheers @BenParr. clapa

    Mixing kolsch yeasts

Hi all, I'm planning a kolsch brew day next weekend. I've got a couple of packets of yeast and wondered whether I should use them both together? I have a pack of lallemand koln and a pack of k-97. What do people think about me pitching both? I was going to get a couple of packs of CML kolsch to...

Stepped mash in a Robobrew (or other all in 1)

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has a good technique for carrying out a stepped mash in a Robobrew or similar. I tried one when doing a witbier, and found it took a long time to ramp up between temps, probably negating any benefit. Reading a recipe for a German lager involving a 10min rest...

    You sexy thing!

Hi all, I'm looking to brew the peanut butter and chocolate stout from MM this weekend. I wondered if others have and how it went. One of the ingredients is molasses, I was planning on using black treacle, it calls for 200g which seems a lot, so was planning on maybe using 100g. Also how do...

    Beer line full of bubbles!

Hi all. I am hoping someone has a suggestion for me! I have a lager in my kegerator. And ever since I've been pouring beer from it the beer line just gets full of bubbles, with the associated foam issues which comes with that! Now the beer isn't over carbonated. I've tried taking all the gas...

    Fermentasaurus snubnose fermenter review

A few months ago I was lucky enough to win a competition by @Brew2bottle Homebrew. I have now done 4 brews with the fermenter now so thought it was time to provide a review. I have done two fermentations under atmospheric pressure, and two under around 10-15psi. Also I have just dry hopped an...

    Dry hopping during pressure fermentation

Hi all, I am relatively new to pressure fermenting, and am doing my first brew with a dry hop. I'm currently fermenting a punk IPA clone from MM. The instructions state to dry hop when FG is reached, at 14degC. Obviously one of the benefits of pressure fermentation is keeping oxygen away...

    Tiltpi - any users

Hi all, I have a tilt hydrometer and have been using it a couple of years now, logging to a raspberry pi and uploading to brewfather. However recently I changed broadband providers to virgin fibre, and now I can't access the pi. I have updated the network settings and can see the ip address of...

First lager under pressure - advice needed

Hi all. I have done a couple of fermentations in my snubnose fermenter so far, but each I have fermentation open and then pressurised at the end of fermentation. The next brew I'd like to do is a simple lager, and I'd like to hear from others who have brewed one under pressure. I'm planning...

    Co2 supplier near Newark

Hi all, I have a 6kg CO2 cylinder I got from Yorkshire CO2 in Doncaster (great supplier). However to take my cylinder back there to swap it is a 2 hour trip for me. I wondered if anyone had a supplier nearer to Newark where I live? Finding the time for a trip to Doncaster is difficult with a...

    Full kegerator!

Thought I would brag, I have filled my kegerator! Better get drinking! Think I can do some tidying up of the lines, but happy I can fit 5 kegs in there!

    Water profile for belgian wit

Hi all, Brewing my first belgian wit today. Bit unsure of what water profile I should be aiming for. Especially as the ingredients include acidulated malt. Can someone suggest what I should aim for. Thanks in advance.

Use of Fermentasaurus snubnose for witbier

Hi all, Got my first chance to use my new snubnose fermenter this weekend and brewing a witbier. Now from what I understand pressure fermentation wouldn't be beneficial to the esters formed for the witbier taste. So my plan is to ferment at atmosphere pressure for the majority of the...
