    Wish me luck!

Made my first brew, yesterday, in almost two years. Woke up this morning and checked it right away. It was bubbling away like a good 'un! Fingers are tightly crossed! Attached, is what I'm making.

Rescuing a beer with ZERO head retention?

Did you use brewing sugar at the beginning? (Forgive me if that's a daft question, I'm still pretty new to this).

    Loose valve on pressure cap

I'm pretty sure it's the valve that needs securing. I used a bulb at the weekend and the pressure is nearly gone. I'll secure the valve, carbonate the barrel and it's probably a good idea to drink up a bit 🍻 Once it's gone I'll test the whole barrel. Thx everyone for your help.

    Loose valve on pressure cap

I have several small co2 cartridges. How many do you think I'll need? I seem to need one for every third it goes down, and a full kit makes my barrel look about 2 thirds full. Would two do it?

    Loose valve on pressure cap

Hi everyone. I believe my valve on the pressure cap is loose. I've tightened the best I can without turning the cap but here's my dilemma: adding more co2, which it needs, will loosen it again. (Please excuse the clutter in the picture!) Any ideas would be hugely appreciated!

    Too cold to ferment?

Awesome feedback, yesterday. I'm very grateful 👍 I looked at terrym's linked article and I dissolved 100g of sugar into boiled water, let it cool and then stirred it in. This morning, the cap of the airlock literally popped out when I gently depressed the lid for a smell 😄 I took a reading...

    Thanks everyone 👍

    Too cold to ferment?

Forgive my naiveness but isn't 1.02 below 1.06? The kit says to transfer lower than 1.06.

    Too cold to ferment?

Hi all. On Sunday, my will have been in the fermenting bin for two weeks. As I can't rely on my airlock, I'm not sure if it's been in too long? The smell from when I depress the lid is considerably weaker than a few days ago. Very little scum on the liquid surface. I took a gravity reading...

That's an awesome name for a beer. What type is it?

Welcome! I only joined a few days ago and am currently on my second brew. My first one was a Coopers, also. Good luck!

    Too cold to ferment?

That's really good 👍 How are you relieving co2 pressure?

    Too cold to ferment?

I'm brewing Geordie Scottish Export. It's nothing fancy but I really like it. I have a pressure barrel but this time, if all goes well, I'm bottling a few for comparison, to give a couple away and to save a bit, in case things go wrong in the barrel 😂

    Too cold to ferment?

Just managed a reading from the stick on thermometer of 22, so that's encouraging.

    Too cold to ferment?

Reading the replies (for which I'm very thankful), a poor seal looks quite likely and I've ordered some new grommets and a thermometer. Meanwhile, I've got a loan of a thermometer, from tomorrow. Thank you all again.

    Too cold to ferment?

I've only opened the lid once since making it and that was yesterday.

    Too cold to ferment?

I didn't take an o.g. so a reading next week won't help, right?
