    Hops in %?

Unfortunately that is all the brewery provided. I will go back to them with a few questions. Thanks anyway.

    Hops in %?

Hi guys, I have been given a recipe by a local brewery which I really want to make. Problem is the measurements are a little confusing when it comes to the Hops. They have been provided as below in % (I have hidden the hops names as to not give out any part of the recipe). The malt was...

    Tronozymol

Thanks guys, I have given it 1tsp for now and will see how I get on.

    Tronozymol

I have done some searching around the forum and there does seem to be a lot of discussion around whether or not to use nutrients. Unfortunately for me it's down to a case of having to try due to stuck fermentations with twin can kits. All grains are fine never had a problem but I am now at...

    Stuck Ferment

I have had a few kits now stop at 1020 for no reason. I just ended up bottling them in the end and they actually turned out fine! Wherry is a common one to stop there.

Can you add too much water to a mash?

No DME :( Something to stock up on for next time I mess up!

Can you add too much water to a mash?

Yeah thinner mash. I will sparge less and see what it comes out as.

Can you add too much water to a mash?

Great thanks! At least it isn't completely ruined!

Can you add too much water to a mash?

Hi, Just started AG#8 this morning (JW Lees Bitter clone) and made a bit of a mistake right from the start and it would have ended up a lot cooler for the mash than it should be. I ended up adding a lot more water (say 5 litres + I lost count in the panic!) to get the temperature up...

HELP! Forgot to put on Hop Filter

Hi, As the subject says I am sure there are others who have done this. Wort is now chilled but I forgot to put the hop filter on  Any ideas what I should do? My thoughts are to leave it to settle a bit and syphon (probably into a sterilised sieve). Any other suggestions? Thanks

    AG3# Blacksheep Best Bitter

I have been wondering about that actually piddledribble. The last time I made a beer it was cooler so next time I will reduce the boil off% It is fermenting though so we shall see what the outcome is.

    AG3# Blacksheep Best Bitter

Hey Guys, Just done my 3rd all grain a Blacksheep Best Better kit from my local brewery store. It didn't actually go as planned and not sure if there is something wrong with my calculations or if I lost count somewhere! Anyway here are the stats: Mallts - Maris Otter: 3340g Torrefied...

    2013 Popped AG Cherry Roll...

Ok I will start the ball rolling on this one. Did my first AG on 26/01 which was an Theakston's Old Peculier clone (would post the recipe but it was from Graham Wheelers book so buy that if you want it - good book as well). I started doing kits in May last year and never purchased a can/bottle...

Anyone using igloo 45l mash tun?

I also use that tun although I put foam insulation spray in the lid. Only done one brew (ever) but it worked perfectly and lost no heat.

1st ever brew only reading 1.6% - help

Hi, What is your actual hydrometer reading? 7 days is normally what they put on the kit. It is more 12-14 days.

    AG#1 Theakstons Old Peculier

You may well be on to something with regards to the sparge arm and gravity. I did a test run before the main run and it worked fine but the boiler was a lot higher and the mash tun on the floor. Will test it when I get home. Cheers for that!

    AG#1 Theakstons Old Peculier

lol yeah they did! Yep, think mine is pretty much going in the bin after using the tin foil method.

    AG#1 Theakstons Old Peculier

Well it's done and in the fermenter. The SG came in lower than expected at 1050 should have been 1058 probably due to sparge not being the best. I lost 7 litres during the boil? If I take into account 1 litre due to dead space and say 0.5 litres due to hops that would mean 5.5 litres due to...

    AG#1 Theakstons Old Peculier

So far so good. Just started the 90 minute boil. Only real problem I have had was during sparging. My sparge arm wouldn't turn and I slightly paniced and then noticed I had a lot of malt coming out of the mash tun. So I took the sparge arm off and went for the jug over foil method. My only...
