    Oxygenation of hoppy wort

I am going to make a hoppy pale ale, which includes 100g hops at flameout and a substantial (300g) dry hop. Ordinarily I would splash the wort in to the fermenter to get plenty of oxygen in for the yeast (London Ale III), but I am also very aware that this style oxidises easily. From which point...

    Little Earth Fest 2024

Is anyone going to Little Earth Fest 2024? https://littleearthproject.com/littleearthfest/ I managed to get a ticket, and was wondering if any other home brewers would be there.

Bottling a Quad - should I have added yeast?

I just bottled a quad (came out a little low at 9.8%). Just cleaned up and it occured to me, should I have used yeast for bottling too as it's a strong beer? I guess I'll find out in a year or so, but anyone think it'll be ok? I'm worried it won't carb.

    Dumping yest - Why?

Why do people dump yeast out of the bottom of their fermenter? I have been looking at a Stainless Steel fermenter such as that linked below and wondering what the benefit of dumping yeast is? https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/product/30l-stainless-steel-conical-fermenter/?v=79cba1185463

    Leftover candi sugar syrup storage

I have 500g of Belgian Candi sugar syrup but my recipe only requires 300g. How can I store the remaining 200g? There is a BB date of June, but will it keep longer? Any advice welcome 🙂

Kettle sour - pH not changing

Hi everyone, I am brewing Greg Hughes peach and green tea kettle sour, and have added lactic acid and yoghurt and left for 24 hours, but the pH hasn't changed since I measured after adding the acid (4.7). Is it just a case that yogurt takes longer to sour, or is there anything I can do to get it...

    Peach and Green Tea sour

I'm going to brew Greg Hughes' peach and green tea keytle sour, and was wondering how best to add the peach puree and green tea. The recipe says after fermentation, so could either: add it to to the keg then rack on to it, or add to the fermenter and leave a few days befor kegging. Either way...

    £360 for a tap... really?

Nothing much to add to be honest. I am in shock https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/product/lukr-baroko-freedom-tap-silver/ What on earth justifies this price? I thought I was being extravagant getting 5 nukataps...

    Pressure fermenting and temperature control

I am doing two things for the first time today - fermenting under pressure, and using my now-fully-set-up brew fridge. The fridge is controlled with an Inkbird and has a tube heater in the bottom. My plan was to ferment at 15C under 10PSI, but the issue I am seeing is that, given I could only...

Putting temperature probe in a thermowell

Good morning, I have this thermowell for my fermzilla, and was wondering if it is simply a case of putting the probe on my inkbird in to it. It doesn't seem a snug fit - does this matter at all? It just doesn't seem like there's much contact between the thermowell and the probe. Any help...

    Imperial Stout carbonation

Does anyone know what level of carbonation I should aim for with a 7.4% imperial stout? Can't find concensus online and brewfather says 2.2-2.8 volumes. Does that sound right? I'll be bottling, if it makes a difference. FG has been 1024 for a couple of weeks now.

    Malt Miller now using DHL?

I got an email to say that DHL have my Malt Miller order ready for delivery yesterday. I only just twigged that they were using DPD before. I was always very happy with DPD. does anyone know why they've switched?

Using RO water that's been stored

I filled up one of these 25L containers with RO water expecting to be able to brew a couple of weeks ago. I shall now be brewing tomorrow. Do I need to ditch (into the water butt) this and get some fresh, or will it be ok to use? I'm not worried about anything biological, as it'll all get...

    Dispensing concentrated starsan/chemsan

I have a bottle of ChemSan, and it looks to me like there is some magic way to get the right amount out of the bottle using some combination of the two lids, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it. Could anyone please help?

    New AEB cornies - pricey

I was just looking at new AEB cornies on TMM - they've jumped in price a bit, to £98 for a 19L, and £104 for 23L(19L also out of stock). It's a shame as the new ones are slimmer compared to reconditioned, meaning I'd get 4 in my fridge. I'm not sure I could justify the extra £9 per keg. It may...

    My first extract brew

YEsterday I did my first extract brew. I have done many kits before, and then moved to All Grain brewing. With some hops taking up room in the freezer and 3kg of DME available, I thought I'd give it a go to see what the advantages are over AG. I must say, although I am yet to taste the end...

Extract brewing - a couple of questions

I've done a few AG brews now using my Brewzilla, and am keen to try doing an extract brew to see what it's like. Last year I got carried away and bought a load of hops before realising I prefer the convenience of ordering AG kits, so was thinking of doing some extract SMaSH type beers with them...
