    Strong IPA

I had been brewing from grain for some time, using a general home brew book for my recipes. When I got my grainfather I found it was so efficient that it was pushing up the abv from what the recipes advised to expect. The beer still turned out very well, and added strength has not affected...

Thanks Paul, I will have a look at that.

Mini Keg Usage, Maintenance & Party Star Deluxe Part 4

Hi D&D, I have on occasion bought Hobgoblin or Ghost Ship in kegs from the supermarket. Is it possible to refill them with your own home brewed beer ? I use a mini keg system for my home brew but didn't think supermarket kegs were compatible.

Bottling after stage 2 ferment in keg

Hi Phildo and Antony, the picture is beginning to clear for me (just like the beer). When sugar is added to the bottle and the bottle is capped, it creates a degree of secondary fermentation by mixing with the yeast particles that the beer will still retain. Craft brewers will call it "bottle...

Bottling after stage 2 ferment in keg

Hi Phildo 79, I too am from NI originally. Is your beer bottle conditioned ? or do you add CO2 as you bottle it ? I am a bit staggered by two or three on this forum saying they don't do secondary fermentation. If you don't condition it one way or another surely you are left with flat beer

    Growlers kegs etc

Thanks for that Kelper, that had occurred to me, secondary fermentation is the keg rather than in the PB.

    Growlers kegs etc

I have been using mini kegs for my last few brews and am very pleased wi them. They have a flimsy plastic cap for empty storage and rubber bung with an inner grommet to seal them when filled. When you want to breach them the long tube of the tap pushes the inner grommet to the bottom of the keg...

Bottling after stage 2 ferment in keg

Hi, mind if I join in ? I'm not quite so new to this, but am intrigued by those contributors who don't do any secondary fermentation. I always have because I began by bottling all my brew, and without secondary fermentation ll you have is flat beer (?). I now tend to use a PB for secondary...

Mini Keg Usage, Maintenance & Party Star Deluxe Part 4

Thanks for that, it makes perfect sense and is very helpful. I have recently been using a stainless steel conical fermenter but now find that my secondary fermentation is not so successful, but i don't know why.

Mini Keg Usage, Maintenance & Party Star Deluxe Part 4

Thanks for these posts about mini kegs. I have been using them for some time now. I have always done a bit of secondary fermenting in the bottle or plastic keg, but does the use of CO2 with the mini keg mean that secondary fermenting is not necessary ?

    Hello

Hello, I'm Ivan W and am a new member. I have been brewing for a few years now. I quickly moved from kit to grain, and began secondary fermentation in the bottle, moving to a bottling bucket. Last year I upgraded my old boiler system for a grainfather and liked it very much. This year I switched...
