    HopCat - Rubber Washers

How do you do your water calculations and have you ever tried larger batches? For a 23L batch I have read 19L to mash + 12L for the sparge for a 28L boil and a 23l batch of wort.`

    HopCat - Rubber Washers

Not yet. I'm still creating my list of preferred brews before doing that.

    HopCat - Rubber Washers

Fine so far and easier than what I was doing before, but I can't compare it to any other system. They have a Facebook group which would be worth you checking out. I personally avoid Facebook and so I have been picking up the tips here and there. For instance: Mash 900w, bring to boil with 2500w...

    beer spear/connector issues

I bought a 3rd beer spear connector and it is causing me some grief. Hopefully someone else has fixed something similar and can offer some advice. It seems that the spring in this spear is too strong as it won't dispense from either of my 2 taps, but I can get it to work with one of those party...

    Swapping Beer Spear

I have assumed that's the problem. I did cut the tub at 45 degrees, but that might be perfect to suck onto the dip at the bottom of the keg. In the aim of not ruining the beer, I thought I would swap spears and than purge the air. I will then mess about with the problem spear with a keg filled...

    Swapping Beer Spear

I use the heavier duty SS 5l kegs that use the beer spears for dispensing and want to get some more 5l kegs. Currently I have a new beer spear for each keg (3 spears and 3 kegs), but wonder if that is necessary if I am force-carbing the kegs? Does anybody use this method or recommend against...

    HopCat - Rubber Washers

They were spares. I wanted to double-check as I was worried I might have a boiling wort start to spray across the room or I would bugger the machine on the first use.

    Is Hopcat legit?

I now have a hopcat and it arrived pretty quickly. I chose hopcat as it included some other items I needed, has a glass pipe on the side showing fill level and the price. Downside about Hopcat is that if you are not in the UK you will now be charged EU Import duties. This will apply to any UK...

    HopCat - Rubber Washers

After giving significant hints before my recent birthday, without success, I recently bought a HopCat. I have set it up and note that it included 2 rubber washers, but these are not mentioned at all in the manual. Does anybody know if these are just spares or where I should have used them?

    What did you brew today?

A double hopped pale ale......that I have probably scorched the wort of. However, just opened a very successful Sierra Nevada Pale Ale Clone that I am very pleased with.

Burned Beer - BIAB with a PECO boiler

I must say that the FV is bubbling away happily and smells rather good. Let's hope I got away with it.

Shop bought beer in a Swing top bottle

I tried using using some flip top bottles I had emptied(consumed) and the carbonation levels were below the other bottles. Should you change the rubber ring whenever reusing flip top bottles for the first time?

Burned Beer - BIAB with a PECO boiler

Thanks. Always something new to learn. Do you still get such issues with the all in one system like brewzilla/Brew Monk/Hopcat/etc? My guess is that I made the following errors: 1) I stirred the grain bag to the bottom. 2) Transferred too much of the dregs of the wort. I did have that running...

Burned Beer - BIAB with a PECO boiler

I was making an ale yesterday and could smell a burnt smell during the boil in my Peco boiler. I completed the boil anyway and transferred to the FV anyway. I was using the BIAB system and running a 75 min boil of my wort in a peco boiler (a peco is basically an FV with a heating element and a...

Brew Monk Magnus 45L - an unofficial review

I spoke with the agent (a pub that resells their stuff) before typing the above messages and he said that will be the price when they sell them in January. That these are special prices for preordering. It would be crappy trick to state the price in that position and hide the full price as a...

Brew Monk Magnus 45L - an unofficial review

Thanks for the reply. I discovered that the easiest supplier for me here has a preorder on the system called 'easygrain'. It looks exactly like the Brew Monk, except it lacks the marked sight-glass for the recirc pipe. I can add that for an extra £20, which is the the £20 delivery costs I will...

    All in one Brewing System

Just found that the easiest supplier for me here has a preorder on the system called 'easygrain'. I can avoid the delivery costs and get the 40L/30L for 186 euros (£167). Arrives January. I'm not sure if I can post the link (here: 2ª PREVENDITA EASYGRAIN - Macchina per Birra all grain + 1 Kit...

    All in one Brewing System

https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/brew-monk-magnus-45l-an-unofficial-review.89072/ Appears we have a recent review of the Brew Monk. They sent it back and got a Brewzilla. I have asked for more feedback in that thread and hope they will reply in time.

Brew Monk Magnus 45L - an unofficial review

I have been looking at blackfriday deals and was about to take the plunge on a Bew Monk...but then I read this thread of yours. I was looking at £295 for the 40L capacity/30L wort Brew Monk. Another option was a 35l Brewziller for £369 - but that includes paddle, spider and jacket. It also...
