    Wort chilling experiment

In theory you can calculate with a high degree of accuracy how many litres of ice at say -18C it will take to chill 20 L of wort at 100C . Its all about latent heat to transforn ice to water.. and a bit more maths about the temp and volume differences. Any takers? Ill have a go later today.

    Attenuation

    Screwtop beer bottles

I’ve used budweisser screw cap bottles for my homebrew with no problems. I use normal 26mm crown caps and a hand capper. I was a bit nervous like you at first so i tried a couple of bottles at first with no problems, now i use them as a matter of course, they seal just fine and unscrew or...

    What did you learn today?

Your wand should not take 2 mins for a 500 bottle, 20 to 30 seconds is about right, dont force it against the bottom of the bottle, just a littletickle and it will flow faster, it may be blocked, try it with water.

    Bottling

I use 330 ml glass bottles and rinse out well after use, then a quick sanitise and rinse before filling and capping with a hand crimper. I batch prime. I reckon it takes me about an hour and a bit for 60 odd bottles. Its all part of the fun, have to do this twice a month as we get through about...
