    Wheat beer question.

I made a brew based on the same recipe. I used: 1.7kg Coopers Preachers Hefe Wheat beer 1.2kg Coopers wheat LME Mangrove Jacks Munich M20 yeast fermented around 24C (Coopers themselves advise to replace the kit yeast with a Munich yeast.) Brewed short to 21 litres Bottled at 3.8 vols ABV approx...

Best Star SAN Alternative including all new Chemsan

Does anyone use Chemsan with Ashbeck water from Tesco? It goes cloudy with my tap water so as suggested on the bottle I've tried bottled mineral water (Ashbeck) and again it has gone slightly cloudy. I was hoping using the bottled water would allow me to mix some and keep it stored for a week or...

    Blow out tube

Perfect. I'll just leave it as it is and keep an eye to make sure it doesn't evaporate too much

    Blow out tube

I've rigged a blow out tube on a kit I'm brewing, the tube is going into a wine bottle with a little Chemsan in the bottom. Overnight some krausen come through the tube and into the bottle. There's still plenty of airspace left in the bottle and the krausen seems to have calmed down so I don't...

    Winter warm kits

Any chance you could post the recipe? This sounds tempting, but also tempted to split the kit and get some cocoa nibs in one half

    Winter warm kits

    Stuck or Done?

I used the same MJ yeast for a Hefeweizen kit and noticed how fermentation slowed down but carried on creeping down little by little. After 13 days it had gone from 1.044 to 1.014 and eventually finished at 1.010 after 19 days. I fermented mine a little higher at 24°C. I know your brew is all...

    Storing kit pouches

Yeah I definitely won't open it until I'm brewing, I brewed another one of their kits earlier this week so know they can't be resealed. It was more in terms of the kit as a whole, especially if I buy some in the future that won't get brewed for a month or two.

    Storing kit pouches

I have a Mangrove Jack's pouch that comes with hops and yeast inside but I'm not planning on brewing it for a couple of weeks. The pouch says just to store it in a cool dry place and out of sunlight, but wouldn't it be best to keep the hops and yeast in the fridge? Would it be an issue storing...

    Choosing DME, Enhancer or Sugars

I went for the boiled water but cooled to about 50°C and used a whisk to mix in the DME, worked a treat. Cheers guys athumb..

Best Star SAN Alternative including all new Chemsan

Cheers. Think I'll seal the bottles up for now then. Reckon I'll need to wash them at all before bottling or will it be fine with some Chemsan on bottling day?

Best Star SAN Alternative including all new Chemsan

I've just cleaned a batch of bottles and before I store them would I be OK to put a couple of squirts of Chemsan in each bottle? They are PET bottles so screw on lids and they'd be stored until my next bottling session in 2-3 weeks. My Chemsan does have a tendency to go cloudy after a day but my...

    Choosing DME, Enhancer or Sugars

I've gone for the options above of 500g DME plus 500g dextrose and hopefully making one of the kits tomorrow. Has anyone got any tips on the best way to dissolve DME? I've read of people having issues with it clumping, from what I understand the yeast will stil eat it up but it won't give me...

    Mangrove Jack's M20 Yeast

I've realised I neglected to update this thread as to how it progressed after conditioning. It finished fermenting at 1.010 so an ABV of 4.5% and now it's been almost two months since it's been bottled. The banana has definitely come to the fore since being bottled so my wife is very happy with...

    Choosing DME, Enhancer or Sugars

It's the Pink Grapefruit IPA & Pils kit's I'm looking at. Going by your post I reckon I'd go for 500g light DME for the IPA, 500g extra light for the Pils and then add 500g dextrose to each. Thanks for the help guys

    Choosing DME, Enhancer or Sugars

I'm looking at getting a couple of Mangrove Jack kits which don't come with any fermentables. They recommend 1kg of brewing sugar but rather than just using sugar I'm looking at ordering DME but should I use substitute 1:1 with 1kg of DME? The other (slightly cheaper) option seems to be enhancer...

    What causes gushers?

Thanks for all the replies, definitely a lot to think about. The gushers haven't been too ferocious at all, it just overflows after a couple of seconds and I'm actually able to pour it into a glass without too much hassle. I usually give a good overnight oxi clean when I clean bottles, FV, etc...

    What causes gushers?

I recently followed a Coopers recipe for an IPA using their Brew A kit, LME and Mangrove Jack's M42 yeast plus dry hopping five days before bottling. My OG was 1.042 and FG 1.010 so by my calculations this gives 79% attenuation so falls perfectly withing the yeasts range of 77-82%. FG readings...

    Random carbonation

I'm suffering similar with a Coopers Mexican Cerveza kit but I've been using PET bottles as opposed to flip tops. Brewed it short to 21 litres, used 1.2kg LME and bulk primed with 150g dextrose. Followed the 2+2+2 rule, so should have finished the 2 weeks for conditioning on Monday. Conditioning...

What kit beer are you drinking tonight?

A Coopers Mexican Cerveza. I brewed it with 1.2kg LME and nothing else so it is pretty basic. It's a nice easy beer to drink but not the most exciting, it could definitely benefit from something to give it a bit more life. It's the third bottle I've had from this batch and it's the first I've...
