Mr Beer - Bewitched Amber Ale

No, but I am in Cheshire... my wife branded my home-based brewery for me as a 40th birthday present so I have a variety of labels for my beer boxes and all-important bottles which I can stick small labels on to depending on what ale they contain... it was a fantastic gift!

Mr Beer - Bewitched Amber Ale

The beer has had nearly a fortnight fermenting and we've hit a final gravity of 1012 which gives a beer strength of 3.9% which I am really happy with. Time to bottle it in 500ml PET bottles with one carbonation drop per bottle as I do not want the beer being overly-fizzy. I shall let you know...

Mr Beer - Bewitched Amber Ale

This morning I've brewed the Bewitched Amber Ale kit from Mr Brew which I picked up from my favourite supplier, Brew2Bottle in Lancashire. It is a 9-litre kit, which I didn't realise when ordering, so I've increased the volume to 13.5 litres by adding 500g of Munton's Extra Light Spray Malt...

Black Rock - Nut Brown Ale

Well, the 'venting' method certainly works... the beer is far less gassy now and doesn't cause an immense head when poured. Thanks so much for the tip - one I'll certainly be using in future for over-primed bottles.

Black Rock - Nut Brown Ale

Cool... so just twist the caps until a little gas comes out and re-seal for a few more weeks?

Black Rock - Nut Brown Ale

I've started cracking open a few of these beers and they're quite fizzy so I think I may have over-sugared them at the priming stage. It's pretty bubbly when poured in to the glass but straight from the bottle they're pretty nice although it's more a fizzy lager style than a smooth bitter...

Mangrove Jack's Australian Brewers Series - Gold Lager

So I brewed this beer on 10/03/21 and after ten days in the fermentation vessel we reached a steady F.G. of 1014 which gives a beer strength of 3.7% so a fair bit short of what I was expecting so I'm not sure why that may be. I bottled the ale in to the usual 500ml PET bottles and used two...

Mangrove Jack's Australian Brewers Series - Gold Lager

Getting ahead of myself given the rubbish weather today so thought I'd brew 40 pints of Mangrove Jack's Australian Brewers Series Gold Lager with a view to bottling it at the end of the month all ready for drinking in the late-spring/early-summer. The kit was simple to brew and the malt extract...

Black Rock - Nut Brown Ale

Last week I bottled 23 litres of Black Rock's Nut Brown Ale in 500ml PET bottles after a fairly faultless fermentation. I brewed-up on 15/02/21 with the single-can kit and 1kg of Young's Beer Enhancer with an O.G of 1.040 and on 04/03/21 the fermentation had ended and F.G was 1.008 giving a...

    Wilko's Winter Ale

Oh my word... this beer is just superb, sorry 'was' superb as it's all gone now and didn't last long once I started enjoying the bottles late-January. The F.G was 1.020 and the strength I achieved was 5.0% with a very drinkable, strong winter ale achieved. Definitely a kit I would recommend and...

    Black Rock Mai Bock

So this Black Rock Mai Bock was bottled on 10/01/21 with a F.G of 1.014 which gave a beer of 6.5% - not far off my initial estimates, above. It's had a few weeks in the bottles and I've had quite a few of these now and it's pretty damn good although you really can taste its strength. For my...

    Black Rock Mai Bock

Today I’ve started a 1.7kg Black Rock beer in the fermentation vessel called Mai Bock although when I bought it I didn’t realise it was a two-can kit so I have decided to play around with it... I’ve brewed to 16 litres with the malt extract kit, above. To it I have added 1kg of glucose sugar...

    Wilko's Winter Ale

So after 12 days at a constant 22degC with the help of the heat belt in the fermentation bucket all signs of fermentation had ceased so I decided to bottle the beer today at a F.G. of 1.020. From my O.G. of 1.058 this should give a strength of 5.0%. I had a sample whilst bottling and already...

    Wilko's Winter Ale

My current homebrew in the fermentation vessel is 16 litres of Wilko's Winter Ale, brewed on 12/12/20 with an O.G. of 1.058 as per the two-can kit's instructions. Target final gravity is below 1.014 according to the leaflet. The fermentation vessel is in our utility room and so to keep a...

    Young's Harvest Scottish Heavy

All bottles of this now gone and they did indeed improve over the weeks they were left conditioning. Would definitely make this homebrew kit again.

    Brewferm Belgian Brown

Down to my last few bottles of Belgian Brown from Brewferm after several weeks in the cool, dark garage. Some bottles are very, very fizzy which leads me to suspect I have over-primed the bottles. There is definitely a 'Belgian' flavour to these but I just think the over-fizzy beer means this...

    MasterPint Czech Pilsner

Down to my last few 500ml PET bottles of this MasterPint Czech Pilsner and it's been a very nice lager to drink. I took a box of them to share with my team-mates after ice hockey the other week and they all loved it so I think this is definitely one to brew again in the future.

    MasterPint Czech Pilsner

I bottled this beer last week with reduced priming sugar compared with previous bottled beers (see my post of the Belgian Brown that has resulted in overly-fizzy and eruptive beer) after fermentation ceased at a final gravity of 1006 which will give a nice 3.8% lager. Fermentation seemed to...

    Brewferm Belgian Brown

It’s been six weeks in the bottle now and I opened one tonight. There was a huge amount of fizz and foam from the bottle which resulted in half the contents pouring themself down the sink! What was left was very nice and far less sweet than was reported a few weeks ago and there is definitely...
