    Burco Cygnet scorching problem

Thanks, Cheshire. I’m now using a grain basket, so the malts are not in contact with the bottom of the boiler. It’s as though floury particles from the grain are dropping onto the element and scorching.

RAFFLE #18 Grainfather Advanced Brewery Set Up

I’ve just bought a second ticket. I won a kilo of hops in March and had 4 numbers in the Lotto in April, so feeling lucky. 🤞

    Burco boiler modifications??

The good news is that my basket wasn’t held up in the canal. It arrived safely on Tuesday, via airmail. The bad news is that it’s too big. 😡 The sale info on Amazon Marketplace said it was 30 cm in diameter (with a manufacturing tolerance of 1-3 cm). It’s actually 35cm in diameter and the...

    Burco boiler modifications??

I’m just now waiting for my stainless steel grain basket to arrive but it’s probably held up in Suez. 😎

    Burco boiler modifications??

I’d recently bought a pump and @Hazelwood Brewery helped me source an atomising valve. It arrived today and works perfectly.

    Burco boiler modifications??

I’ve just finished modifying my Cygnet, fitting a new tap and an atomiser valve with lots of help from @Hazelwood Brewery and @BridgeBrew. BB kindly used his lathe to grind off the flange of one of a pair of flange nuts. I used yellow PTFE tape to fit the tap but the joint continued to weep a...

    Morrisons Rip Off

I buy a lot of malt whisky from Sainsbury’s. My selection choice is that I only buy the ones on special offer. Got back one week and found I’d been charged full price (about £8 more). Went back about two weeks later with my receipt and they checked their records. They confirmed the overcharge...

    Pumps and PIDs

Thanks Hopsteep (Ignore the brass flange nut on the end). This was the Screwfix valve. It does look like stainless steel but isn’t stamped with 304 or 316 like the rest of my stainless kit. Product code is 67744. Description says “brass, steel & plastic construction” Should I replace it, do you...

    Census 2021

The monarch has to complete a census like everyone else. The 1851 census for Buckingham Palace lists Victoria. She put her occupation down as “Queen” 😂 Albert though was listed as the “Head of the Household”.

    Pumps and PIDs

Looking good Hopsteep. I’ve just bought a new pump and need another ball valve to control the output. What is the advantage of a stainless steel valve over a cheaper brass version? (Sorry to go a bit off topic)

    Census 2021

I know you’re only joking but it is pretty easy to find the number. Every household should have received the invite letter.

    Census 2021

We’re asked to persuade households to complete it online. We’ll suggest that they might see if friends or family can help them, if they struggle with IT. If they’re unable to do this then we do have a supply of paper forms. The aim is to get a form completed and if that means a paper version...

    Census 2021

I’ve got a part-time job as a Census Officer, so from tomorrow, I’ll be knocking on doors, trying to persuade those households that haven’t submitted yet to complete it.

    RAFFLE #10 1kg of hops for £2.5 (20 tickets) WON - Andy_K

Chuffed with the win. Thanks Ben. I’ll let you know what I’d like, once I’ve planned my next brews.

    Klarstein v's Burco setup

My Burco was bought 2nd hand and has a Simmerstat fitted (the white knob). It controls the % power to the element and works with the thermostat to give smoother temperature control. I’ve just ordered a grain basket having been using a bag until know. I’ve gone for the one used by @Hazelwood...

    Nice new to me Cygnet.

Hi BridgeBrew I think I’m going to replace my tap as well. Could you give the Toolstation product codes for the valve & nuts, please? Is there anything else I’ll need to get the same setup as your photo?

    Suppliers?

Unless I need something urgently that my local HBS doesn’t have, I put together a bulk order to get ”free” delivery. A couple of suppliers offer this for orders over £50. For most of them though, it’s £65 - £100.
