Dry Yeast for Beavertown Neck Oil

I had a pint of this yesterday. I'd agree with US05 but really any neutral yeast would do the job. M44 etc

What country makes the best beer?

I'm almost tempted to say the USA, although conversely they also make the worst beers in the world.

    Hello from Forres, Moray

Hello! I'm in Inverness and brew all grain... probably badly.

    Beer bottling

My bottles are all different sizes too. Before I fill the bottles I arrange them in height order. I need to adjust the height 3 or 4 times during a bottling session. It's still far easier and faster for me than a double lever

    Beer bottling

Good selections posted above... whatever you do. Under no.circumstances be tempted to save a few quid on a hand capper, you'll regret it. Go for a bench capper.

    Highlands Deliveries Question

Not to the Highlands it wont.

    Highlands Deliveries Question

Nope, unfortunately not. If you try putting the Highlands in with the country set to the UK they tell you to email about international shipping rates.

    Highlands Deliveries Question

Nope, it's really not. I emailed them about it wondering if it was a mistake. Got fobbed off... and thus lost me as a customer forever.

    Highlands Deliveries Question

Nah, @geterbrewed charge £18.95 to ship to the Highlands.... which are often not considered to be the mainland... despite quite obviously being the mainland.

    Highlands Deliveries Question

Yeah I buy plastic buckets and bottle caps from there.... and that's about it. Shame about not getting malt from either of those places. I'm in Ness Castle and yup, I brew all grain Where are you located?

    Highlands Deliveries Question

The only place I know of that sells grain is Farm and Household Stores and they've only got a very limited supply of precrushed grain. And who knows how long that's been hanging around! I wonder if it's possible to buy sacks or grain from the Black Isle brewing company? There is also a...

    Highlands Deliveries Question

The homebrew company have a standard delivery charge (£7.95) and you're not penalised for living in the Highlands It is fairly frustrating and of course no proper homebrew stores around.

When is FG too low and should I bottle?

Yup. I've certainly had a few gushers after reusing bottles that had previously contained a beer with belle saison in it. (And the ones that gushed tasted very dry compared to the ones that didn't) If I've used a diastaticus strain I'll soak bottles with a really strong batch of VWP for 24...

    Late Hopping.

Question about adding hops at flavour that are intended to add no IBU and are purely for flavour and aroma. I get that this happens at around 80c So I chill as quickly as I can. But do I stop chilling at 80c and leave them for a while? Or do I carry on chilling to pitching temp? (Which takes...

Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

I don't know if this will be of use to anyone. But I've taken the info in the original post and made it into a flowchart/reference document for myself

Behind The Curve (Documentary on Flat Earthers)

In Inverness there is (or at least was as it closed a few weeks ago) a Flat Earth shop. The owner hands out Flat Earth literature as well as promoting a vast array of other conspiracy theories, chemtrails, geo-engineering and of course covid related. Up and down the Highlands there is loads of...

    Recipe for Disaster!

The result of steeping in cold water was rather bland. A slight flowery and grassy taste. With a very small bit of aroma. But... the star by far was steeping in vodka. Really aromatic and flowery with an almost herbal taste. Interesting. Now to figure out what to do with these findings.

    Recipe for Disaster!

So I boiled about 10g of clover flowers in 300ml of water for 10 mins... And this is what I was left with. It has next to no aroma at all, it's not flowery as I would have thought. The taste is fairly watery, there is a little bitterness. Although from what I've read, boiling this reduces the...

    Recipe for Disaster!

Thanks. That's a great idea. I shall get cracking on that. Gives me an excuse to use up some vodka
