    Fermenting lagers outdoors?

When our main fridge packed in several months ago, my brew fridge was requisitioned to store our food (who needs to eat?) I still haven't rustled up the funds for a new fridge as something (like my Son's wedding) always seems to get in the way. I do love a good dark lager but don't have the...

    Small 12v Aquarium Pump idea

Hi all, I bought a small aquarium pump from China a few months ago for less than a fiver and thought I'd give it a try for recirculating the wort. I'm currently brewing an Oatmeal Stout and I think it's working rather well. I have it connected to a 12v battery charger and I'm using the Peco...

    Radish in beer?

I've a glut of radishes about to be picked. I eat the odd one with a salad but I'm wondering would they work in a beer? I've Googled and there is commercial stout with radish which is ideal as I have the ingredients for an Oaty Stout about to go on. I'm thinking the slight heat of the radish...

Adnam's Ghost Ship Mini Kegs in NI.

OK probably not an offer but mini kegs are a bugger to find in NI but Tesco Knocknagoney had these for £15 each. These are rarer than a hens tooth, which funnily enough I couldn't find. https://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=292284280 They also had 2L nano kegs at £7 that...

Juicer V's Press, cider brewdays comparison

I'm new to cider making, I don't normally drink the stuff but thanks to this forum I asked about and sourced some apples. In fact 2 batches. I can get hold of a press thanks to the lovely people at http://www.houseofhomebrew.co.uk/ but there's a waiting list so I decided to use a juicer today...

    12v Pump

Hi all, I ordered a 12v pump which arrived today. My idea is to recirculate the wort for a continuous mash. I have a spare 12 car battery but it's dead as a dodo. Is there anyway else I can hook this up? I don't know much about electrics btw as you can tell by the question.

Victors Drink Pale Ale 10 Pint.

Spotted this in Argos earlier when I was picking something up. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5748130.htm There was also a cider kit. Ready in 48 hours  If it gets someone into brewing I suppose it's a good thing.

    Protein clumps

Just brewed a lager and suffered from these. What are they and how do I avoid them? Now I've a brewing fridge they should settle easily but I've ruined beers before because of them.

    Rhubarb Wine recipe

Hi, I've done a search and read up on a few threads but I'd like to run this by anyone that had made a Rhubarb wine before. I've 2250 grams of Rhubarb but only 1 demijohn. Does this recipe sound OK? 2.25 kg Rhubarb 2 kg Sugar 250 ml Red Grape Juice 100 ml strong tea Enough water to top up a...

Just bought a new fridge, holds 2 FV but just about - Question

Hi all, just bought a larder fridge off Gumtree for £25. It's a bit bashed about but otherwise in decent nick. I can fit 2 FV in but just about. I'm wondering how to solve the top FV where I can't fit an airlock to my top FV? Could I use sanitised cling film with a pinprick hole?

Old Golden Hen Mini Kegs (especially for anyone in NI) £10.95 B&M

This may be National but I'm posting this more because these mini kegs are impossible to find in Northern Ireland. My son works for the company that the Cregagh Road branch, Belfast had these in stock. There were at least 10 out on shelves with more in the back but my Son says his boss can order...

    Tea ball infusers

I've had a few clarity issues and I've pinned it down to hops. Pre boil without hops. Post boil with hops. Now it usually clears in my FV but anything I can do to help my beer clear is always helpful. So I've wrapped my hop filter with 200 micro stainless steel sheet. Hopefully it won't...

Warsteiner mini kegs £10 in Home Bargains

Spotted this on HUKD http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/warsteiner-beer-keg-10-home-bargains-2440245?page=1#comments Thought it might help some. I've tweeted @homebargains but does anyone know if any of their NI stores sell alcohol? I can sort of guess the answer but live in hope. I'm certainly...

    Lager temperature question

I still don't have a brew fridge  I plan on making one but sourcing a free fridge is the problem (yes I'm tight lol) I want to do a black lager. I can do a pseudo lager but I was given an out of date Bock yeast WLP833 that I plan on using and doing a 5L batch and keeping it in my fridge...

    Pilsner Malt recipe help

I had planned a wheat beer for tomorrow but unfortunately my LHBS didn't have any wheat malt. The girl in the shop said she might have some and get it for me tomorrow but I'm looking an alternative recipe as I have 3kg Pilsner Malt to use up. I have 3kg Munich Malt and 2kg Irish Stout malt but...

    Gypsum

I'm going to do a Stout in the next few days but the recipe calls for Gypsum. What exactly is it and what is it used for? I'm in a soft water area, I'm thinking it's something to do with the water?

    Youngs American Mocha Porter

Sacrilidge, I went and bought one of these kits after reading another thread. I just wanted something simple to get on the go as I won't have time for an AG brew for a week or 2. I'm wondering what the OG and FG this will end up? The beer is 5.8% on the box but I don't like really strong beers...

    Secondary bottling?

I'm looking to give my mate a couple of bottles. I've carbonated using sugar but I don't want him to get the yeast at the bottom. They've conditioned for a week, can I transfer them to other sterilised bottles leaving the yeast behind? Will the fizz stay in the bottle or any pitfalls? I'm sure...
