JaDeD Immersion Chillers in the UK

I’m def interested in one of these. David Heath gives a strong case for them.

Should I ad anything to my water

Hi I would add 1/2 campden tablet as already said to get rid of chlorine. In terms of other salts I wouldn’t bother if it’s your first brew. Brew a nice ale and see what you think. After that maybe consider reading up on water chemistry but remember it’s only seasoning it’s not going to stop you...

What happens if I don’t cold crash?

All depends on your expectations with the brew and what your brewing. If your hoping for a crystal clear lager then yes it a must. If it’s something where your really after taste and aroma and clarity isn’t an issue for you then definitely not a must. If it’s a Juicy IPA or a wheat beer then...

    Keezer's of the UK

https://ao.com/product/rhcf198b-russell-hobbs-chest-freezer-black-63977-33.aspx This is the one I went for. I can get 3 old style 19L cornies and 1 new style kegland (taller ones) in there plus I can fit a 10l keg in too at a push. I went for a 7” collar and my gas is outside so it’s all beer...

    BIAB - Mash temperature

I mash in a cool box and do it exactly as you say. I get it to first step then hold (I lose a degree or two) then add boiling water stir, measure, add boiling water, stir, measure until I’ve hit the next step. Basic but works for me.

2 weeks in fermenter at 2 degree C

This step is essentially lagering your beer and will impact the clarity ( the cold will let the solids drop out ) rather than the flavour. You’ll want to carb this first other wise you might not have enough yeast left to carb. I’d prime, bottle and keep at your fermentation temp for two weeks to...

Help thread! High FG lager or stuck fermentation?

I think this ones a lottery. With the under pitch you could end up with some good flavours or some bad flavours caused by the esters generated by the yeast over working. The problem with a Czech lager (or any Pilsner) is that flavour wise, there is nowhere to hide. I made this mistake with a...

    Sanitiser in the FV!!!

Hi Muppix, I didn’t go all in one route, I’ve converted a 32l thermos cool box to a mash tun ( used design from HBF hisdudeness I think?) and went with a 35l brew kettle (from maltmiller). I’m using my old 15l pot as my HLT and I’m really pleased with the set up. I got a 3 roller mill so I’m...

    Sanitiser in the FV!!!

Sadly folks this one didn’t end well. It’s was full of sugary flavours, the bananry esters were not complimentary and in the end life’s too short for bad beer and she went down the drain. My first failed batch but loads of learning. Gone AG since and have had three awesome batches. Thanks for...

    What did you brew today?

Had a great brewday today. Really getting a rhythm with my kit now. Brewed a Kölsch, only tried this style just before lockdown2 and loved it. 4.5kg Pilsner 0.5kg Munich mashed @ 66degC Perle at 60mins Took a risk and went with Mandarina Bavaria at 5mins and Flameout, not traditional but 🤷 CML...

    Fermzilla 30L All rounder ?

    Fermzilla 30L All rounder ?

This is the way I’m keeping the phone out at the mo. As I add dry hops with FV open I’m trickling in CO2 up through the tap via an empty keg. Quite proud of that one 🤓

    Fermzilla 30L All rounder ?

Evening all! what are folks thoughts on the Fermzilla 30L All rounder? I have it in mind for fermenting under pressure and for NEIPAs to keep out O2 while transferring to keg under pressure. it’s on my list for Santa. Should it be?

    Sanitiser in the FV!!!

Quick update! Kegged her today she’s stalled at SG 1.020 for the last week. Tried to up the temp and give the FV a swirl to try to get her going again but to no avail. Getting tonnes of banana and spice from the taste of the hydrometer reading sample not unpleasant. In the fridge now will try...

    What did you brew today?

10th batch and second attempt at a NEIPA today. Second time I’ve used my @HisDudeness design mash tun. Whacked the valve open at the end of my mash and ended up with it stuck! Tried blowing in the tap outlet and created geyser spraying hot grist on to the back of my head 😂. Ended up scoping it...

Dry Lager Yeast how much is enough?

Hi all, scratching my head at the moment wrt yeast as I prep for my first lager brewday. I’ve made a mess of pitch rate in previous batches so I’ve used my copy of “how to brew” to determine how much yeast to pitch and for a 23l batch at SG of 1.048 of Czech Pilsner. it’s pointing me towards...
