    Homebrew beginner

Welcome. I was brand new to this about 5 years ago. My advice - I agree that there are no daft questions, the key to good beer is cleanliness and temperature control, bottling is a pain in the neck, you now have a Xmas list for the next 5-10 years, you tube can be v instructive and sooner or...

Thank you, especially for the Edit

    PRV too sensitive

More v useful info - thank you. You mention variable LPG regulators in the low pressure range. Ive previously searched for something similar and struggled - do you have a link to a source please?

    PRV too sensitive

I’ll take a good look at it. Thanks

    PRV too sensitive

It could, just trying to use something simple to keep O2 out as much as possible.

    PRV too sensitive

I don’t have one of these, all I had was the chainlift I use to raise the malt pipe in my Brewtools B80. It was quite the performance, using ratchet straps around the fermenter. But if I keep having problems it’s a useful thought. a pump is another. Thank you.

    PRV too sensitive

Thanks. The Chronical is supposed to be able to handle a low pressure transfer. It is sold with a pressure transfer kit. But I’ll check the rating. Thank you.

    PRV too sensitive

Well it was all cleaned and sanitised before use and due to my still being on a learning curve with my new brewing kit it wasn’t very full. The transfer issues were with outflow which shouldn’t have pushed any debris upwards. But you never know, I’ll take a good look. Thanks

    PRV too sensitive

Not quite sure how I would connect that and I’d be a little worried that any sudden rises in applied pressure (caused by my own stupidity) could damage the fermenter. But thanks for the thought.

    PRV too sensitive

I have recently bought a 14 gall Brewtech Chonical fermenter. V pleased with it but as it’s v heavy when full and the racking arm is lower than the top of a Corny, I need to pressure transfer. First time I did so - no problems, all worked well. Second time the PRV kept leaking at extremely low...

    Aquabion

15.2 degrees German, so not as bad as yours. Thought we were very bad and perhaps the worst in UK, all our water comes out of aquifers in the Lincolnshire wolds - where are you that yours is so bad? General comments suggest that the levels of zinc I’ll achieve would not be v good for yeast...

    Aquabion

We have extremely hard water which destroys household appliances. I have resisted all advice for a softener as I would need an RO system to get my brewing water back to something I could treat and use.our plumber has suggested an Aquabion filter which I read uses zinc to turn limescale into...

    Backsweeten mead with strawberries

Made my first batch of mead 3 years ago. It turned out so well we used small bottles of it as favours for my sons wedding. The guests were highly sceptical about “home” produce but drank the favours and all the extra bottles. I could have given away twice as much. This year I’m trying to...

    Hole in my hlt

Thanks for all the advice. have no experience with solder. I’ll try the toothpick idea first and drill it out if all else fails. Cheers.

    Hole in my hlt

Did a brew today and noticed a drip coming from my hlt. After a lot of searching with a powerful light I located a minuscule hole in what otherwise appears to be a totally sound stainless steel bottom. It’s so tiny I wouldn't be a able to pass a fine needle through it. No idea how this can...

Oxygen free dry hopping in conical fermenter?

I realise that it’s two years since you posted this but having been experimenting today you might like this. I have a 7gall chronical. The pressing of the domed lid has induced a every small level of magnetism into the stainless steel, particularly at the edge of the dome. I’ve rolled up a bag...

    Culture storage

    That makes sense. Thanks

    Culture storage

Had an unexpected chance of a brew day recently but hadn’t prepped a starter and only had liquid yeast. Tipped in two smackpacks to 23L but fermentation didn’t start for days. So I made a starter from another smackpack and lo and behold as soon as I had done so fermentation started in the fv...

    Advice on kegerators

The plot thickens. After much deliberation I bit the bullet and bought a Mangrove Jacks 3 tap kegerator. It’s basically the same as a kegland one with a logo on the front and was surprisingly cheaper. Part of the deal is still that it provides sparkling water on tap as well as beer. So our local...

    Advice on kegerators

Thanks. I am looking at this as an alternative but as you say space is an issue. Also there is dcbrookes’ point about lines getting warm. I do have a converted fridge in my brew area but it’s far too tall and the lines and taps are inside it - so that works v well but it’s it not close to the...
