    Wine labels...

But you have to spend ages cleaning the bottle to get rid of the "spare" milk as is smears something chronic. Also not good if you use an inkjet and print up to the edge. But, yes, for stickability, very good!

    The colour of commercial cider.....

There is a French brand who make a specific blush cider, which is a little more expensive than their "normal" ciders (both brut 4% and doux 2% ABV) The TC I have maturing in 3L bottles looks like apple juice, yet the carbonated cider (from the remainder of each of the 5L batches), is much paler...

    Chestnut wine ?

They are sweet chestnuts and not horse chestnuts, right? Horse chestnuts are poisonous

Shipping home brew in the UK

Go to your friendly neighbourhood carpet store and ask them if you can have the middle/roll.

Keen to try the B2B challenge but...

Don't know where to start! Anyone got any recommendations for basic AG books so I can have a read first before I completely cock up?

    Failed TC?

Well it's not really failed. I added 1/2L cherry juice to 4.5L Apple juice after the initial vigorous fermentation. The cider is wonderfully dry, perfectly clear, but hasn't retained a spot of cherry flavour. Any ideas what I could do for the next time (Apple juice already lined up ;) )

Can you store wine in flip top bottles

Even if it isn't going to be fizzy? This could solve my bottle problem... :)

Brewing with water from the bath!

Scott, Miker7301 said: "just as you wouldn't drink from continental taps for the same reason." However I'd say that the water treatment in France is just as efficient as that in the UK, and that mains water is safe to drink. But you're right, I wouldn't drink water that has been tanked.

Brewing with water from the bath!

Hello *waves* living-in-France person here... the tap water is perfectly OK to drink, even if the water in my region is very hard.

    Major brew day today...

The Smugglers has gone off like a rocket. The foam has hit the lid already (8 hours after pitching)! Here's hoping that I don't get too much overflow overnight!

    Major brew day today...

Yes, but the full bottles will be all nicely lined up on shelves in the garage, not in a massive cardboard box all jumbled up! ;) Now I just need to put up another set of shelves and I'll be sorted... goodness knows what the neighbours thing every time I open the garage door

    Major brew day today...

It's a very typical German "glugger" bit noisy, but does the job! I admit it looks a bit out of place on a 30L barrel, but the company make containers up to 600L, and the airlocks are all interchangable.

    Major brew day today...

Yep I bottle... can't wait until they're done - have you any idea how much space 240 500ml PET bottles take up??? I need my basement room back! I quite like bottling, I stick an audio book on and off I go (I batch prime though!)

    First kit bottled

Not awfully big, a little less than half an inch; but it was very compact. Hardly budged at all when I put the siphon tip on the bottom. This is the Wherry: My "test" bottle being clear glass so I can see how things are "progressing" ;)

    First kit bottled

It's taken me a while, but I've eventually got round to bottling my first two kits. Wherry and St Peters Ruby Red. they were started on 04 Aug, and finished about a week later, but I just haven't found the time for all of the sterilising and washing which comes with the bottling. However I...

    Any plumbers out there?

I live in the house that Jacques built... all of my internal plumbing needs a major overhaul, but what I'm really struggling with at the moment (for the past week) is my water pressure. Any ideas why my water pressure to my kitchen tap would be decreasing? For the majority of the time I have...

Stuck clearing - filter or start again?

Leave it longer. Even with two-stage finings, one of my tea wines took well over a week to clear completely.

How easy can making AG beer be?...seriously easy !

Oh, yes... count me in! I'll do it for a laugh; never mind anything else!

    So how was your Saturday?

To bloddy hot! Temps hit about 35°C so didn't really do very much. Only good(?) news was that Sunderland drew against Arsenal!
