    Smoking Malt

Thanks very much farmbrew. Sounds about right to me, will do it next weekend and let you know how it turns out. Would guess warm or hot smoking would drastically darken the grain. Luckily I've modded my Bradley smoker so I can smoke at just above ambient temperatures. beermaker, smokers are...

    Smoking Malt

Anybody ever smoked their own malted barley? I have a smoker and fire it up this time of year for smoking meat, but was thinking I'll do some grains while I'm at it. Any idea of how heavily smoked it should be? Thinking of smoking about 3kg of pale/ lager malt with aim to use 0.5-1kg for a...

Opinions welcome - spice and honey application

Actually, I'll double check my recipe for you later and male sure. I was making a honey ale rather than a beer with a hint of honey flavour.

    Citra cerveza

Sounds great, just did something similar with the Pilsner/European lager kit and a handful of Sazz hops. Was also thinking of adding some lime peel to a cerevza kit... get the lime flvours in instead of having a wedge in the bottle!

Opinions welcome - spice and honey application

Sounds good, but I'd add a couple (literally) cloves in there. Honey isn't sterile (will be full of inactive yeast and bacteria spores, the medium itself isn't favourable to micro-biotic growth so never goes off) but still shouldn't cause any problems. I added mine after the boil when the wort...

    Christmas beer!

Made a Christmas ale last year, used 1 sachet of Schwartz mulled wine spice for a 2 gallon batch. Added when boiling up the extract. As most flavours in spices are oils, best to get them hot to extract the flavours (as you would hops). Removed after the boil. Lightly hopped with fuggles, was a...

False Bottom / Bazooka for Electrim Mash Tun

Picked up a Electrim electronic mash tun last weekend, great job. But my improvised muslin cloth grain filter didn't turn out so good. Took a long time to drain out. So was thinking of either: false bottom http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/aca ... om-10.html or bazooka...

    St Peters Golden Ale review

I brewed this about a year ago. Very dissapointing. Didnt have a good flavour at all. Put this down to either a bad batch or a slight infection (i.e. enough to taint the flavour - musty, but not make it go bad completely)

    Your most bizarre brew...?

Nothing more adventurous than Bay and Rosemarry here. My Thai/ East Asian style beer (lime leaves, lemongrass) turned out far, far too delicous to be considered whacky. Tho Im planning a potato and carrot beer soon.

    Carbonation issues - Northern Ireland

Good thing with using PET bottles is you can give them a squeeze during the priming period... when nice and hard (like a carbonated drink should be!) you know it's done and you can transfer to cold storage to condition. I always include a couple PET bottles along with glass ones so I know how...

    Brewferm, Framboos Review

Think I'm going to try this at the weekend. Something to bottle for non-beer drinking BBQ guests in the summer. So is sugar a better option than malt extract?

    Smokey chilli chocolate porter

interesting about the oils, tho the bit about "Chile beers uniformly have poor head retention because of the chile’s oils." doesnt seem to be true of mine, probably because I used a small amount of dried chilli and used wheat malt as a base. Think adding them at end of boil or as wort begind...

    Smokey chilli chocolate porter

Most of the the capsicum will come out of the chillies pretty rapidly. I added 1 tsp to the boil. After it finished, it didn't have the kick I was hoping for, so I stuck another teaspoon in and boiled for another 10mins. I left the chillies in the primary as well to extract the smoky and chilli...

    Smokey chilli chocolate porter

Interesting is definitely a good way to describe it. It's my third or fourth non-kit brew and be far my favourite. Still room for improvement tho. One to enjoy with good Mexican steak, like I just did :) Don't seem to be allowed to insert an image as a new user., so you will have to imagine...

    Smokey chilli chocolate porter

Style: Wheat Porter Type: Partial Mash/Extract Quantity: 4-4.5lt OG: 1045-6 ish FG: 1009 (est) I'm pretty much new to this game, and as a keen foodie/chef type, I couldn't resist an experiment! Tasted a chilli porter in Philadelphia back in April that was, well, interesting! After trawling the...

King Keg Kegerator Setup - what do I need?

Missed out on the fridge... will have to try again. Down to my last few bottles of IPA so need the chiller to take over asap!! It's a long summer...

King Keg Kegerator Setup - what do I need?

Cheers. Got measurements of keg and should fit in a larder fridge easily enough, going by the fridge I have. Hopefully getting one today off gumtree for £20. Flatmate is a electronic engineer and he will work his magic with the temp control :)

King Keg Kegerator Setup - what do I need?

Apart from the obvious... what is the minimum I need for a kegerator setup? Sick of warm, foamy beer... temp in garage is perfect in winter but not in summer!! First question, will a king keg (with co2 bulb fitted) fit in a standard under counter fridge (with shelving removed of course)? I'm...
