    Yeast Starters

Yes, when I started using liquid yeast I pitched directly into the fermenter and it turned out ok for Ales. However, with a starter I have found a dramatically reduced Lag Phase and fermentation starts very quickly. As it’s often the way of it I also changed several other variables during the...

Domed lid for SS Brewbucket 7 Gal

I use a BB for fermentation and closed transfer, but don’t have the domed lid. I use the 90 degree Hose Barb with a silicone blow off tube for all my fermentations, and then for chilling insert a smaller tube into that and hose clamp a Brüloon full of CO2 on to prevent air being sucked in. For...

    Free hops

Hi Ben, can I please have 200g of each? I’ll PM my address. If getting towards the end of the batch I’ll happily take a bit less to let more people have some.

Equipment For Sale Powell Brewing Stainless Steel 3 Vessel System

£300 ONO Located in Glasgow, Scotland. Hi all, After needing to relocate my brewing area to a smaller area in the garage (rather than our Kitchen) I have changed to an all-in-one brewing system which has a smaller footprint than my current 3 Vessel setup. Unfortunately, this means I am selling...

    Hello from Glasgow

Welcome! I’m just to the north of Glasgow and been brewing for just over a year. Starting with kits is a great idea, really helps flatten out the learning curve a bit. Dial in sanitation and general fermentation processes like temperature control. I personally only bottle the excess from any...

    Wood burners

Hi Shirley, can I ask what part of Scotland you’re living in? I’m west central and always cut immediately to required length a does everyone I know with a burner. I have also seen the Rounds approach all through the UK ( mainly because I can’t walk/drive/cycle past a woodpile without having a...

    Changes to the highway code.

As drivers we already scan for pedestrians ready to cross at zebra crossings and prepare to stop? So it’s now the same process at junctions. Also, following drivers just follow the same process as zebra crossings and stop when the car in front does. If drivers of any kind of vehicles can’t do...

    Suppliers advice

As has already been mentioned, I can definitely recommend Crafty Maltsters near Auchtermuchty in Fife. Arranged a pickup of a couple of 25Kg sacks of Malt this week and Alison was incredibly easy to deal with as well as very helpful. I know that there are several Forum members who buy from there...

    BeerSmith 2 Expert needed

Hi, bit of a shot in the dark here. I seen to remember that the default “Mash Tun Loss” on Beersmith is 2.84 L, mine is higher and was changed accordingly. If that’s the case, did you drop yours down to zero manually? I noticed that in your screenshot the box to “Adjust Mash Vol for Losses” is...

    Thinking of getting SS fermenter

I’m currently using an SS Brewtech Brewbucket 7 Gal in a Hotpoint undercounter fridge. Needed to build a platform at the bottom to raise up slightly due to compressor hump at back. This does end up with a tight fit, but is possible by installing the 90 degrees barb and blow off tube rather than...

    Daft question about sparging

That’s a great idea!!! My dead space is about 5L so that could make quite a difference. I can feel an experiment coming on....

    Daft question about sparging

The flow rate is pretty low, so 30 min plus to fully sparge and drain

    Daft question about sparging

In my Limited experience I match the lauter rate until the calculated sparge water volume has been added and then basically let the MT drain at the same rate. I’m only 6 All Grain brews in, so take this with a pinch of salt until more experienced members chip in?
