How long to leave in primary fermentation?

Thank you all for your help. It's turned out pretty darn well if I do say so myself! Cheers! 🍻

How long to leave in primary fermentation?

I don't have a wider trial vessel. I'll try it in a jug when I get back from trip.

How long to leave in primary fermentation?

Ok thanks. Maybe it is 1.010. Tested hydrometer in water and it is a little off, showing 0.998 in water so a little off but presumably negligible? Very strong in terms of alcohol and hops (thought i'd say hops more than alcohol). Thanks, will get it kegged and go from there.

Taking a sample/reading - throw out the sample?

Thanks for responses. Actually, sample needed wasn't very much at all so was happy to taste and chuck. On a separate note, I have left the sterilisation soluton (Brewsafe Sodium Percarbonate) in the jug can I reuse to it sterilise the sample jar for another reading in day or two, or best to make...

How long to leave in primary fermentation?

Thanks all for the ongoing info & discussion. It's day 18 so took a gravity reading. On day 1 (OG?) the reading was 1.052, today the gravity is 1.000. The kit's instructions says it should it can move on to next stage if below 1.014 so (assuming the reading is stable in 48 hours), I may be good...

Taking a sample/reading - throw out the sample?

Hi all, Taking a reading of my first brew today. Have a hydrometer and sample jar that came with the kit and based on previous threads it looks like a turkey baster or plastic syringe is the way to go for extracting a sample (?). After taking a reading, should the sample then be thrown out...

How long to leave in primary fermentation?

Thanks all for those helpful replies. Sounds like I'm overthinking a little then. Thanks for the clarification re terminology. The kit I was gifted came with a pressure barrel and I was under the impression that the options after the initial fermentation is to then move to bottles or pressure...

How long to leave in primary fermentation?

Hi all, My first brew (Muntons West Coast IPA) is in its primary fermentation stage. Thanks to my lack of planning (!) I have a few trips coming up around the 14 day mark (when the kit instructions says to move to secondary fermentation). I've outlined a timeline below: 21/07 - Started brewing...
