    Brewing temperature (complete novice)

Most houses are kept close enough to 20 degrees to be plenty good enough for beer. Find a corner of a spare room, back of a cupboard etc and you'll be absolutely fine. Don't overthink it

    Acidifying the Sparge (or not!)

Interesting. Have you brewed without water treatment many times? I brewed for 15 years without water treatment and never had harsh or mineral tasting beer and have similar water, including pale beers and bitters. 🤷‍♂️

    TETB’s Brewdays

I'll be happy to do that, but I won't be brewing it for a month as the fermenter will be tired up for the next 3 weeks with my grand cru

    Acidifying the Sparge (or not!)

🤣I think the idea is your want to get rid of the chlorine, not use it 🤣

    Acidifying the Sparge (or not!)

That said, I keep meaning to do a test brew with neutral (Tesco ashbeck) water to see if it's any different

    Acidifying the Sparge (or not!)

I brewed for 15 years before starting water treatment. After a small amount of non-rigorous and basic testing, I can say that the difference is minimal. Salt additions in a blind test were "just" noticeable in a side by side test. I do some basic water treatment because it's no hassle and...

    Acidifying the Sparge (or not!)

I don't acidify the sparge and have similarly >300ppm hard water. Never had astringency. As far as I've read, you can (but it's not guaranteed) get astringency if you have too high ph and to hot sparge water (>70° IIRC). I just keep the sparge water at 65ish

    Witbier - which wheat?

I don't bother with protafloc in naturally hazy brews

    Witbier - which wheat?

Ok, I have that vision now as well... I need to order some wheat. What did you decide to go with in the end?

    TETB’s Brewdays

I wonder if it could have been small amounts of debris that built up over time and got stuck in a nook. Small bits can easily get through a spider, or it could even be cold break build-up. It could have gradually built up and discoloured until it clogged the system, then got ejected out when...

The downfall of the Tory party.

Sadly, all it has done before is make them pander to the extreme right to pick up votes, which isn't exactly the definition of doing "a proper job"

    Guess what it is?

Something to catch the drips from under a beer tap?

    Witbier - which wheat?

There's not an enormous difference in the end product if you use malted or unmalted wheat. I'd just go with what you've got unless you have a strong reason to brew traditionally.

The downfall of the Tory party.

I didn't think it was possible, but he's doing worse than Trusspicalypse At this rate, reform will be the official opposition party after the next election and the Tories will have single digit numbers of MPs!

    Anna's Brewdays

When people talk about "temperature control" they normally mean "a fridge" not "timing your brew with the Earth's progression around the sun"

    Dumb iSpindel Question(s)

You'll never stop yeast sticking to a spindle/tilt/pill. Even the smooth sides under the surface have yeast build up on them (you can see this when you pull out out)

    Potential bottle carbonation tip

It takes me about 5 seconds with a funnel and teaspoon. 5x longer than a zevro but the 4s difference really doesn't make any difference to me at all.

    Oxygenation of hoppy wort

I thought it was much faster than that - within a few hours

    DIY Pothole repair

I remember a story about someone in Europe who painted penises around potholes to get the city to fix then quicker!
