What are you drinking tonight 2022?

Tonight I'm having a bottle of Beaverdale's Grenache Rose. It has been sitting in storage for just over a year

MYO Lager Kit Advice (newbie to beer/lager making)

I have never tried the wine kits as I wasn't sure of how highly they were rated I assume they are worth a shot? I'm quite excited actually to see how the lager turns out actually. Is it worth adding any finings to the finished lager? John.

MYO Lager Kit Advice (newbie to beer/lager making)

Thanks Dutto for the advice, it is appreciated. Oh! "falling down juice" sounds interesting... maybe slightly tempting haha! I assume the DME and enhancer just improve the flavour profiles? Thank you! John

MYO Lager Kit Advice (newbie to beer/lager making)

Hello fellow brewers! 👋👋 I hope you're all keeping well? I was in the Range the other day and picked up a Make Your Own premium lager kit. One of my neighbours was having a clear out and gave me beer making stuff to get started (bigger fermentation vessel, bottles etc.) which is all pretty...

Wine has become fizzy, like prosseco

Hi Bob, Was your apple wine made with supermarket juice? I haven’t tried back sweetening yet but do generally prefer quite a dry wine. Personal preference I guess. Although when making this wine I was aiming for something sweet. From the notes that I had scribbled down I had added the...

Wine has become fizzy, like prosseco

Sadly Chippy_Tea I have been using corks in my bottles….. Thankfully I only have 5 bottles which are now safely stored in a bucket in the kitchen - the ceilings are 11 foot tall so hopefully I shouldn’t get a cork lodged in the ceiling!

Wine has become fizzy, like prosseco

Thanks VW911 very much appreciatedi knew someone on here would be able to help. :-) The wine isn’t majorly bubbly like champagne but there is a sparkling quality to it in the glass and it has certainly added “class” to what i labelled it as (blue collar trashy tropical wine)! You have put my...

Wine has become fizzy, like prosseco

Hi all Hope everyone’s doing well. Tonight I have opened a bottle of tropical wine (supermarket ingredients). Made around Christmas last year. The wine seems to have carbonated in the bottle. It’s lovely! albeit now I’m a bit paranoid that the wine bottles might go pop! As I never intended...

How sterile are you with your home-brewing?

I have to admit as a newbie I like to keep everything as clean as possible. The thought of an infection in the brew doesn't sound very fun at all. I usually have the sink full of a no rinse sanitiser when I'm making a batch. It might be a little bit over the top but its worked for me so far!

Ribena wine... what yeast to use?

I’ll suffer tomorrow/today… the taliskar has been opened haha. To be fair there’s some half decent wines out there. Tesco do a Tesco's finest Cotes De Gascogne, in my opinion it’s better than Calvert’s. But I guess wine and palates are different and what suits some is different for others. I...

Ribena wine... what yeast to use?

The must tasted nice enough at the start.. we’ll see what it tastes like in a few months when it’s bottled. I’ll check it in a few days as activity is starting to really slow down now. Hoping to get ABV about 12/13% And there’s me thinking a short cut is just going to buy a bottle of wine from...

Ribena wine... what yeast to use?

Thanks for the recipe Brando👍👍. I now regret digging out an old lavender hedge at the start of the year to make way for new privet hedging.. I’ll be giving it a bash after this apple and cranberry with strawberry supermarket wine effort….

Ribena wine... what yeast to use?

It appears Ribena is splitting opinions! I quite like Ribena anyway so it would never go to waste... Bando how long do you boil the Ribena for and would that not allow the boiling off of essential oils/flavours that make Ribena, Ribena?
