    DME to liquid malt extract equivalent please

    I want to brew a small batch of ale, can someone tell me the equivalent DME weight and water dilution to equal 0.5kg of malt extract? :wha:

    Wine Kit Recommendation?

    Can someone please recommend a good 5 or 7 day wine kit, I've done a Cabernet Sauvignon 5 day 21 litre kit by Cantina, turned out not too bad for a first attempt, now Mrs. McC is after another to try, any colour (or one of each).

    Bottle or batch condition?

    Ok so does the second FV I plan to use for batch priming need to be able to hold pressure? And as it'll be my first attempt, how long will it take to carbonate? I'm in no rush and would definitely prefer a good beer rather than a quick beer :)

    I'm definately going to try that one next, looks like I was way out! Should I let it settle in a second FV for a bit to drop seds before I prime and bottle, as another problem I encountered was when I opened the bottle it was so fizzy it stirred up all the sediment again BUGGER!!

    So if I were to use less sugar, there would be less fermentables and when it's all done it would be lower alcohol content? or am I missing the point..........

    OK so can someone tell me what governs the alcohol content? Is it the amount of sugar, the amount of yeast or the time you let it ferment? Ive seen recipes for varying quantities using the same amount of yeast (I think) any hints or tips greatly absorbed

    Hi there, looking to do my first home brew kit, so here's the question, my wife likes Old Speckled Hen and Pedigree, and I like Black Sheep and Hobgoblin, is there anything thats anywhere close to this? Failing that, a nice crisp bitter/ale that a beginner can't mess up?

    Demijohn filling

    Newbie question alert! When using the Demijohn as primary FV, how much gap should I leave between the top of the liquid and the bottom of the airlock cork? I'm kind of guessing about 1 to 2", am I anywhere close?

    Ginger Beer fizz?

    I haven't actually bottled yet, how much sugar for a 1l bottle? I don't expect it to be fizzy like lager as you need some serious kit for that, I'd just like it to have a wee sparkle, are carbonation tablets any different than adding sugar?
