    Help with equipment purchase please.

You appeared to request some sort of input? My error it seems.

    Help with equipment purchase please.

Hi chippy, my pleasure at your kind invitation. I am well aware there are some on any internet forum who get a little more agitated than they might under real-life face-to-face circumstances but let's look at this; the thread was opened with a question asking for views/opinions/advice etc on...

    Help with equipment purchase please.

My goodness me, you DO seem to have a problem don't you!

    Help with equipment purchase please.

My 'need' for creating recipes is more of an interest really. Kits of all kinds dictate what the beer will be like and that's not usually how I want mine to be. I haven't brewed from anyone else's recipes for over 20 years; it's perhaps just me but i get a pleasure setting out to create a type...

    Help with equipment purchase please.

I don't use a catering boiler but a brewing kettle - the sort you get from The Homebrew Shop in Farnham. It has a 16 gallon capacity so I can brew 10 gals at a time. And while the hops are boiling, because my mashtun is separate I can proceed with the next mash. This way I have made 30 gallons...

    Help with equipment purchase please.

I think you are allowing your imagination to run away with you there. In fact it seems it is you who is disparaging me for having the temerity to express my own, different , opinion. What might matter to those who want to pursue this craft over many years is that all in ones, like the old music...

It's never been a challenge i assure you.

New to here, but not to brewing

As someone famously said, "Hello, good evening and welcome". I have been brewing for over 45 years but have never used a Grainfather; always separate mash tun and boiler, sparging arm, etc so probably can't offer any tips unless you have any specific questions? I would of course suggest you...

    Help with equipment purchase please.

I expect to be a lone voice here but I cannot understand why people spend hundreds of pounds on a Grainfather or similar. I saw one in a brew shop some years ago and thought: "my goodness look at all those things to go wrong". The other issue is such reliance on tech for brewing and recipes...

Water prepping before all grain brew advice needed please

I find myself astonished at how all theses techno bits and pieces have made such a simple process utterly bewildering. No doubt they are well-intentioned means of making grain brewing 'easier' but they do seem to create more problems and raise more questions than they address. I find using...

Help, 1st attempt, do i need to ditch my beer.

Not much to disagree with there among the replies except perhaps to add that it's very difficult to brew a bad beer by mashing. You may not get the result you wanted or expected but it will almost certainly be drinkable and who knows? You may enjoy it so much you will want to re-create it then...

Cheapest full bodied red wine kits?

That's the way to make a beaverdale kit; a couple of litres short and you're there. No need to do this with WE; far more juice in the bag. There really is nowt for owt and you do get what you pay for. Kits such as Solomon Grundy ought to be sold as drain cleaner but maybe some just want the...

    Red Wine Kits

You get what you pay for I'm afraid. French Vin de pays is remarkable when drunk in France at even the humblest cafe but they're not sending that over here oh no! Kits which contain higher amounts of grape juice are the best and those which don't and also require you to add the odd kg or so of...

Winexpert and wineworks mid range whites

I drink little white wine but have made the WE Chardonnay and also the Beaverdale version many times. Reds, BD and WE everytime; always be suspicious of any kit which requires you add sugar. It's more likely to end up as drain cleaner.

The Range (Make Your Own) Apple Cider kit

If it's made with pears it is perry not cider. Cider is only made from apples, despite current marketing trends.

Wobbly Gob Traditional Cider. Great Barr Gold Apple Cider

I have used a few cider kits including the one you refer to from wobblygob; surely Angela Rayner's sister??! Anyway I too found it disappointing and had issues having been included a duff yeast sachet. Nothing at all happened in several days. I rang them up and had a very strange argument with a...

Modern mild - am I really the only brewer who makes it?

Yes, it's the low abv lightly hopped beer as opposed to the historic unsoured porter of olden times.

Modern mild - am I really the only brewer who makes it?

I'm familiar with that mild and that's why i stipulated 'modern mild' because the Beacon version is more of the old mild style when mild simply meant not soured. In other words a fresh porter.

Modern mild - am I really the only brewer who makes it?

Hi Les, Yes I agree the modern mild style can often be pushed out for drinking after just 10 days. Many years ago I and some friends organised a home brew beer festival in my garden. It was incredibly hot as many summers were back in the 1990s and one of the beers failed. Hurriedly I decided to...

Grainfather S40 - Mistake? Shall I return and get something else?

My only thoughts are why buy into so many potential problems? My setup is over 40 years old and has never let me down yet. It's purely manual and cost next to nothing
