    Clearing out

Hi there, I'm clearing out unwanted/unused brewing equipment. Will post some items (UK only) but some are pick up only (Fife area, Scotland). 1. Fass-Frisch Party-Star Deluxe tap, including 4 nitro cartridges (Sorry, I'm keeping the C02 cartridges for my cycle pump). I've used it a...

    Secret Santa 2013

Kinleycat - thanks for the nice review. And no, I don't have a lot of brewing experience. The year the beer spend maturing in the bottle has done a lot to cover all my brewing mistakes! :thumb: Oh - and I need to appologise to the person who has received my other beer - an old...

    Secret Santa 2013

Appologies for the late review - an African holiday and a bout of flu on return kept me from writing sooner! Both beers were consumed and thoroughly enjoyed on 23 Dec but unfortunately I did not take any pics! 1. X12 The Bitter End Ruby bitter - It arrived is a 750ml bottle (thanks a mil Mr...

    Secret Santa 2013

Got this one a while ago. No number but I'm looking forward to tasting it! I will have to open my beers before Xmas day (flying out on the 24th) so can the mods please create a feedback sticky? Thanks!

Looking good Kev! Are you going to bottle or keg?

    Mild? or is it brown?

  As I said in my post above - At least it provides a starting point for an argument.  The link I've provided was in the spirit of answering the question implied in the subject... Hope your beer taste ok - my very first mild is currently undergoing a cold crash and I...

    Mild? or is it brown?

Have a look at the BJCP style guidelines. I'm not sure if the are followed/used in the UK competitions?!. At least it provides a starting for an argument :D . English Brown Ales are category/section 11.

    BIAB is superior............

Hi Aleman, Just to clarify - I've only ever done BIAB so I cannot compare it with 3V brewing! It's interesting what you say about mash clarity - BIAB'ers might be their worst enemy by opting for a finer grain crush. I will also have to read up on the thin mash and activity ratio of alpha to...

Brewday and BBQ at mine on Sat 31st Aug

Kev, Thanks for the event. Note to self - next time take a taxi! Pity I had to leave early. The food was really good and the beers great. I did, however, realise that things were going south rapidly when the famous Aussie lager made it's appearance :drunk: B

    BIAB is superior............

Hi Aleman, Why do you say this? I've got an Old English ale and a Wee Heavy that's now 8 months into a planned 12-24 month maturation period. Is there anything I should watch out for when trying the beers? A 70L pot will do - 12kg grains - 50L of initial water - 60L mash volume - 3.87...

    AG #9 American Brown

That looks very nice! The wort seems to be amber instead of brown. Regardless, it will be an awesome pint!

    American Brown Ale

Dr Mike, I've brewed a couple of ABA's and they are probably my favourite beers. I've compared your recipe with the recipes I've followed (Janet's Brown Ale and Dirty Water Brown - both Jamil's recipes) and your malt selection and ratio's looks good. The 10% crystal malts might make it...

Videne - No rinse with citric acid

I think there's already citric acid in Videne. Don't know if adding more would make a difference?

    thermometer

I've got a Thermalite 1 and 5, both with calibration certificates. There's a reasonably consistent 1C difference between the two in the "brewing" temps range (20C to 80C). I've also got some cheap thermometers (digital, glass and dial) and their readings are around 4C over OR under the...

    BeerSwap Feedback

Conan - thanks for a kind review - I'm glad you've enjoyed it. I personally think the beer is a bit thin (my mash temps might be a bit low due to a faulty thermometer) and it's already lost a lot of hops aroma.

    BeerSwap Feedback

Another brewday in the sunny, steaming porch brewery and the ideal opportunity to crack open 4B. Arrived well packaged with a note informing me that the beer is called "Mistakes were made" and that it's around 6% abv  :thumb:. The bottle was in the fridge for nearly a week for the...
