    Yes o frozen fruit

Having worked in a fruit factory that did frozen raspberries I can say that it's not treated in any way differently from fresh other than the flash freezing. Fun fact, the stuff that fell on the floor was shovelled up at the end of the shift and sold to the jam factory down the road (very well...

    Yes o frozen fruit

I was wandering around Tesco the other day and saw they had bags of 1.5kg mixed "imperfect" frozen summer fruits. (I've frozen rasps etc. That are all broken). Appeared to be a mix of rasps, brambles, red and black currants and possibly strawbs. Was only a couple of quid per bag. I wondering...

    Stuck ferment x2

An update.... Despite initial good signs, there has been no change to any of the wines (or juicesit would appear!) One of them is developing a really nasty flavour however! The experimental wine did ferment out eventually though, to drier than a nun's..... Well you know! Much back sweetening...

    Love Brewing New Kit Giveaway!

That's a difficult choice between double dancing duck and double zombie but I think the double dancing duck just edges out in front for me.

    Stuck ferment x2

I can report reasonable return of fermentation in one wine (record keeping is not my forte, the labels fell off of a couple of DJs so I'm not sure which one is gorse and which is nettle) I'm fairly sure it's the nettle. Getting a bubble every 15 seconds or so. The next one which will probably...

    Which yeast?

Apologies if this is such asked question. You may be aware of the huge difficulty I'm having getting anything to ferment out. I was looking on eBay for a different wine yeast. I saw one description for the Young's dried active yeast that I've been using and it said that's it's only really...

    Stuck ferment x2

Tested the SGs of my wines again. The 5 gallon batch of experimental elderflower is still at 1.002 after, I think, four weeks. The apple and mango WOW is still at 1.030 after three weeks and the nettle and the gorse haven't budged at all, they're both at least two three months fermenting...

    A specific question about gravity

It's Young's dried active yeast (I actually thought it was Young's general purpose wine yeast) the best before date is 01/11/22 which seems annoyingly close given I only just bought it but even so, once it starts multiplying it shouldn't matter. Two of the batches had some restart yeast added...

    A specific question about gravity

I know, it's across the board, everything is fermenting extremely slowly. The temperature is an issue but this is high summer and really shouldn't be cold enough to cause issues, it's still 16-18°c in the house. The only thing I can think of is the yeast isn't very good which would be annoying...

    A specific question about gravity

The wine in question has moved slightly, a few points on the SG scale but barely at all. In fact none of the wines have moved much. The 5 gallon batch has been fermentation for two or three weeks and is still 1.010! The apple and mango WOW is still at 1.030 after a week and a half, two weeks...

    A specific question about gravity

This thread went a bit off topic haha. My mother in law once put a bottle of wine in the freezer to cool it down quickly but then forgot about it. Not one to waste any of it, she let it defrost and drank it. I tasted it and it was foul. She drank it and was extremely ill for a day or two...

    Still no carbonation

No, it just came with the one head. It's a very snug fit on the caps once pressed on, takes a bit of wiggling to get the bottles back out sometimes. Thanks for the explanation of the collar, I'm guessing the wing capper grips the bottom of it so that it can pull against it to push on the cap...

    Still no carbonation

Well the syringe trick worked a treat! Im not au fait with the terminology, is the collar the edge that the cap fits on? The capper that I've got puts a fair amount of force on the cap (I broke one bottle) so I'd like to think it would seal the cap properly. I think the old adage, buy cheap...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

I transferred the dodgy wine into a demijohn and got some in my mouth.... It hasn't improved over the last few days 🤮🤢🤮🤢🤮 I've also put a new batch on, same recipe. Straight I to a DJ this time and no heater pad. I've put the DJ into a bucket though because I think frothing will be...

Yup, never spotted it in Lidl. I'm away to head out there shortly so I'll look again

    Still no carbonation

The bottles were all bought off eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/253228810291?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Qom_f3CLSeO&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=No9UUodvQOO&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY The capper is this type...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

I'm actually struggling to find grape juice. Can get plenty of apple, cranberry, tropical etc. but grape isn't easy to get locally it seems. Grape concentrate specifically for winemaking is easy enough to get and I have a batch on as an experiment. I have three litres of apple and mango juice...

    Still no carbonation

Cool, I'll give it a bash. I have several syringes but they've all been used for engine related things so I might struggle to find one that's clean.

    Still no carbonation

The beer was crystal clear when it went into the bottles and still is now. I'd be surprised/annoyed if none of the caps had sealed. Both bottles that I sampled were chosen randomly from the batch. I poured this bottle from a couple of feet above the glass and got no appreciable head, little...

    Still no carbonation

Hi guys. Today is three weeks bottled for my Cooper's real ale. After zero carbonation after 7 days, I've left it alone, still in the living room for a further two weeks. Today is three weeks bottled so stuck a bottle in the fridge this morning and have just opened it. Same again, zero...
