    Adjusting wine acidity

Hi folks, I’ve been brewing beer for some time now and recently made the jump over to wine. When brewing beer I need to made several adjustments to my hard tap water, in particular, I need to add AMS (Carbonate Reducing Solution) to soften my water. The couple of wine kits I have made so far...

what do you do with your brew?

I brew 40 pint batches, but I keg half into 5l kegs, and bottle the other half. The kegs tend to go fairly quick, but I store the bottles away. Some beer styles need to be finished up quicker, but for the ones that can condition for a long time, I drink an occasional bottle, which means I...

Which gas line connector to use when force carbonating

Yeah, that’s exactly what happened. Rookie error I know, but trying to avoid it in the future. The non return valve sounds very sensible. And thanks for all the other advice too.

Which gas line connector to use when force carbonating

Hey Everyone, I tried force carbonating a keg for the first time (used priming sugar before). I attached the gas to the beer out connector, as I read this helps to push the gas through the beer. The carbonation went well, but I made a school boy error and when rolling the keg around for a few...

    Dark rock IPA kit

Hi folks, I’ve been pretty impressed with the Dark Rock all grain kits, and wanted to try brewing up a crisp IPA, something like Neck Oil type of thing. from what I can see they don‘t do a kit in this area, but maybe I missed something, and wanted to ask if anyone found something similar in...

    Bucket to collect sparge drips

Great thanks, will look them up. re the malt pipe dimensions, the actual pipe is 26.5cm wide, but including the supports the stick out from the sides its 29cm external. So I figured a min of 30cm diameter at the bottom of a bucket for clearance.

    Bucket to collect sparge drips

Hi folks, Do any of you remove your malt pipe when the sparge is virtually complete, and sit this in a bucket, to a) catch the last bits of wort the drip out, and b) stop it making a mess until you can empty it! I’m struggling to find a food grade bucket with a base of 30cm to accommodate my...

    Brewzilla cooling and whirlpool

Cheers guys, I tried a brew this afternoon and took your advice. Temp dropped more quickly with the whirlpool arm stirring the wort. I removed the chiller a few degrees above end temp, and continued the whirlpool for about another 6 or 7 mins, and this did a pretty good job, created a decent...

    Brewzilla cooling and whirlpool

Hi folks, I recently bought a Brewzilla gen 4 that came with an immersion chiller and whirlpool arm attachment. For my first brew in the system things worked pretty well, I didn’t use the whirlpool arm on this first go, but the immersion chiller done a good job to clear the wort. However, when...

Commercial UK crown cap bottle recommendations

Just weighed a few of my empties, all 500ml. All 289g so, yeah very consistent. But you’re right, shame they don’t come pre filled!

Commercial UK crown cap bottle recommendations

I know this isn’t exactly what you’re asking. But I just bought a few boxes of empty bottles from Ballihoo They weren’t that expensive, good quality for reusing…and no labels to remove 😀 I bought from them because they also do a large range of different coloured bottle caps, and gummed paper...

    Mobile dispensing cleaning beer lines

Yeah, my Nuka Tap was flow control, but still created too much foam, hence trying out the beer line, which works well. Just how to easily clean it.

    Mobile dispensing cleaning beer lines

Hi folks, Due to space constraints I dispense my beer from 5L SS kegs. Previously I used a Nuka Tap directly attached to the keg, along with a CO2 injector to top up when needed, but I was getting too much foam. So I have now switched to a Pluto gun and 6 foot of thin beer line, which works...

    Stalled fermentation with Safale S-04

Thanks, I’ve only used S-04 once before on an English ale, and that also missed its FG, even though the temp was kept in range the whole time. Do you find you still hit FG target with these short fermentations?

    Stalled fermentation with Safale S-04

Yeah, this a good point. so if the yeast has just run out of steam, should there still be enough present for secondary fermentation in the bottle? maybe the addition of the priming sugar will re-awaken it?
