    Wilco Chardonnay infection?

I've just done a second kit with exactly the same results. The wine looks more like whisky. Both kits were bought in the Wilkinsons half price sale in the summer. :hmm: The wine tastes ok though, so it's going to be getting supped.

Do PET bottle caps wear out?

Update. I decided to buy some new tops after all and I still have the leakage problem with my last brew after it had been stood in the bottles in the warm for two weeks. So it has to be the bottles, I think. It was obvious which bottle was the culprit as it was only half full and there was...

Do PET bottle caps wear out?

I've just had a thought. The leaking bottle problem has coincided with me starting to use a non rinse cleanser which makes my hands slimy, so maybe I'm not tightening the caps up like I used to? I'll try re-tightening them all from now on once my hands are dry.

Do PET bottle caps wear out?

Thanks. I'll pick some up at my LHBS when I go in next week. Let's hope that cures the problem or I'll have to fork out for new bottles too to try and rectify it.

Do PET bottle caps wear out?

I've been brewing for just over a year and I guess my bottles have been reused maybe 10 times and just in the last month I've noticed that when I've bottled my beer and left it in the warm for a couple of weeks there has been a slight leakage from the bottles. Is it the caps that need replacing...

    Wilco Chardonnay infection?

I've just dipped a glass in the FV and the wine is clear as a bell and looks just like whisky. Could it still be fine or does it sound infected? I've tasted it and it doesn't taste bad, but I don't drink wine so I'm not a good judge.

    Wilco Chardonnay infection?

It's in a 23l FV so I'm sure you're right to some extent, but it does still look very brown coloured to me. I'll try dipping a glass in later and see how it looks then.

    Wilco Chardonnay infection?

It's one of the premium kits made by Muntons, I think. The wine has fermented and has been stabilised with the finings having been added 5 days ago. The wine smells fine, but it's brown in colour. It looks more like an ale than a white wine. Is it infected and should I just pour it down the drain?

    Wilkinsons premium merlot slow ferment

I put it on yesterday and the airlock was bubbling within a couple of hours, but over 24 hours later it's still going at the same rate, a bubble every 30 seconds. All the other wine kits I've done have been bubbling away the day after the ferment starts. Should I be concerned or is this fairly...

Educate me about non rinse cleaner please.

So, maybe I will stick with chemipro oxi. I still have loads left and it will probably last me until the end of the year, so if I haven't had any problems, I might as well get it again. It was just the slimy feel that was freaking me out. Thanks for the replies. :thumb:

Educate me about non rinse cleaner please.

I think I'll use up the chemipro oxi and then change to another non rinse. I live near Preston so the water here is quite soft. Anyone recommend a brand for least possible hassle? Not to bothered about price, just no rinse, no hassle.

Educate me about non rinse cleaner please.

I'm still not fully happy with my non rinse cleaner. What's bothering me is if I put my hands in the solution, when I take them out they feel slimy rather than squeaky clean. Surely this is what's also on the inside of my bottles when I fill them with beer?

    wilko.com sale

That's going to depend on how many of the brewshops customers regularly read the brewing forums. Even if I'm not really after any brewing info I will still always check into this forum at least every other day specifically to see if there are any offers on anywhere as I know they will be posted...

    wilko.com sale

I figured the AG brewers wouldn't really have been able to cash in with the offer. But the kit brewers, both wine and beer, have had a field day if they had the cash available to stock up.

    wilko.com sale

I'm wondering what effect this sale is going to have on all the small home brew shops. I always used my lhbs with Wherry at £22 even though I knew I could get it for £18 at Wilko's but at £9 I just couldn't really justify my loyalty to my lhbs. I stocked up with about 6 months worth of kits...

    tripple tyke export ale.

I know hydrometer readings don't lie and science is science and all that, but I've had brews before that have finished on 1020, and once I've got over the initial panic and just got stuck into the beer, it still got me as ****** as all my other brews and tasted every bit as good. Go figure.

    tripple tyke export ale.

The beer felt strong enough after I'd drank the pint.

    tripple tyke export ale.

Just poured myself a pint but like I suspected, it hasn't had enough time in the bottle as it's pretty much as flat as Naomi Campbell's biffin plate. The beer tastes nice enough, but it does need probably another month, I think.

    wilko.com sale

I ended up with 19 two can beer kits and 11 thirty bottle wine kits.
