    Custom stainless fermenter heating?

Fil, you need to have both feed and return below the baths water level, then it can't syphon back, if you already have it set up like this and it still syphons back, you have a leak in the pipework or connections... add a little piece of hose to the return to take it to the bottom of the bath...

What pump for a new 100 litre set up?

+1 for Draymans suggestion, a few folk also use the small solar pumps you have in 100ltr systems, it depends what flow rates you want I guess. I use both Home brew builders and March 809's.

    HERMS flow rate

Hi S, I suppose it depends on the surface area of the fb but using a 80ltr tb my flow rate is around 2.75ltr/min, best to leave the mash to settle for 10 mins or so before starting recirc helps too if you've not tried it.

    A case for herms

Yep, get your point oj, my comments were more to avoid it looking like I laud all things HERMS/RIMS....lol. Even the shiny thermopots show the same variance in temps through the mash, and those variances are one of the reason I use a HERMS...bit of a control issue for me...lol

    A case for herms

I would have thought that it doesn't matter if you hit strike temps and stir properly, unless you have a 100% insulated system with no losses you'll lose heat, and by losing heat you'll create thermoclines in the medium, it can't be avoided..unless you use a heat replacing system (HERMS/RIMS)...

    Cornelius set up advice

As your looking at Malt Miller (I assume) for AEB kegs Just ask Rob (Malt Miller) he'll sort you out, aka Borischarlton forum member. You want ball lock disconnects as pin lock are not really standard in the U.K. John guest fittings on the disconnects are easier to use than barb fittings.Tubing...

    70l or 100l Shiny pots?

It's really a case of future proofing yourself should you wish to brew more. You can always mash less in a big tun and boil less in a bigger boiler etc, evaporation will depend on heat input so it's impossible to say. I used to brew 46ltr batches of OG brews to 1.070 (2 x cornies and a few...
