White grape juice - can sultanas be used?

Hi, I use sultanas all the time for my regular 5 gallon batches, use 250g per gallon, wash them first in a colander under the hot tap to remove the oil ( and it softens them) add them to your bucket then I blitz them with a hand blender, add 5 litres of orange juice and 5 tsp pectolase, add...

    Fermented orange juice

I,d say give it a try with a gallon demijohn first but be prepared to have loads of sediment. I've made dozens of gallons of wine using one litre of orange juice and 250 grams of sultanas and the orange juice always throws quite a bit of sediment compared with other juices such as Apple. Give it...

    Sultana and Golden Syrup Experiment

Just as an an update; I racked this yesterday, it had an SG of 0.995, (approx 14%) and had a nice taste, I've moved it to the wine cellar (shed) for maturing but I may break into this during the festive season :D All the Best

    Live Yeast

Totally agree with Moley, always use wine yeast, it's not worth using bread yeast in wine making any more, the old recipes used it all the time because it was the only thing people could get hold of easily. Get a pot of wine yeast and it will last forever if you make stater bottles and keep in...

Youngs Country Definitive Blackcherry Red Wine Kit

I made this kit last year, I wasn't impressed but the inclusion of more grape juice should improve it greatly. All the Best

    Too much for demi john

You could freeze the juice in a tupperware type container, I've done this a few times, just defrost when you need it, I find the freezing process actually improves the juice too, works a treat. All the best

    Supermarket bargain fruit experiment

As an update and to answer a few questions, the campden tablets were used to kill off any "enemy" yeasts/bugs from the fruit, always a good idea as a precaution against infection when using any fruit. The fruit mix was fermented on the pulp for 8 days (stirring and gently sinking the floating...

    Sultana and Golden Syrup Experiment

This has slowed a little now so i've topped it up with the milk carton must, it's still going great guns though but not quite as manic as a WOW. I'm loving these old glass airlocks, although delicate they are a lot more musical than the plastic ones :D

    Sultana and Golden Syrup Experiment

Hi All, I was clearing out the kitchen cupboard on Sunday and came across an old tin of Lyles golden syrup, was going to throw it out as it was best before Jan 2010 but then thought.......I'll try a wine with it. The only other ingredient I had was a 500g bag of sultanas so after a look through...

    Vimto Wine

As long as you added the yeast when the syrup had cooled a bit all should be ok, give it a couple of days it could be just a slow starter, i've had that a couple of times. All the best
