    Best commercial beer

I've not posted on here for a while because I have not been brewing the last couple of years. Noticed this thread in the forum email and thought I would chip in. I like Orkney's dark island for a dark ale, also Black Douglas by Broughton is good. Harviestoun Bitter and Twisted is a...

St Peters Ruby Red Ale review

I have just finished the last drop of my St Peters RRA kit and I must say I was disappointed after reading good things on here. Like Steb mine had no head unless you poured it quickly. Also the taste was a bit sweet like cough syrup or something similar. The taste improved if you let it warm up...

St Peters Ruby Red Ale review

It doesn't tell you to do it on the instructions but I stirred it in before adding the yeast but did not stir the yeast. That said mine has just been bottled I have not tasted it yet. Though it seems to have gone well. The fermentation can be quite vigorous on this one so it is worth brewing a...

    Water from bottles or tap?

I dont honestly know what the mineral levels are in my local tap water. I only use bottled mineral water to save me from dechlorinating the water prior to use in homebrew.

    Water from bottles or tap?

I get mine in Lidl. Works out about £2-50 for enough water for a 40 pint brew.

    Water from bottles or tap?

I am currently on my fourth kit brew and have always used bottled water for my brews. I notice from reading this forum that most homebrewers seem to use tap water and treat it with a campdem tablet. does it make any difference? Are there advantages/disadvantages to each approach? I ask this...

What beers are you inspired to brew?

If i go down the AG route in the future (and its a big if at the moment) I would like to do a Fyne Ales 'Vital Spark' clone. It is one of my favourite ales and the only place I can buy it sells it for £3 a bottle so a homebrewed version would be ideal. Has anyone tried this?

    Brewing in a bedroom?

I have made 4 batches in my bedroom so far and have never had a problem. I live in a bungalow so transferring to the kitchen for bottling is not a problem.

St Peters Ruby Red Ale - A few questions

Just pitched the yeast in this half an hour ago. I have brewed short to 21 litres but have not added the demerara as this is my first time making this brew. Depending on how it goes I might do that next time. OG was 1.042 at 20 degrees. Thanks to all for the advice.

St Peters Ruby Red Ale - A few questions

I should be able to do this if it helps. @Piddledribble how long would you leave it in the FV for?

St Peters Ruby Red Ale - A few questions

Hello I am about to make my fourth batch of kit brew and this time its going to be St Peters Ruby Red Ale. I have read on here that it is one of the better kits. Previously I have brewed one can kits and always to full length. My questions are: 1. Should I brew short? I don't like the idea of...

    best lager kit ?

Ive recently started drinking my coopers European Lager after about 10 weeks in the bottle. I made it with 1kg of the recommended brew enhancer. You are supposed to leave it 12 weeks. It is relatively clear just with a few wee yeasty bits floating around in it, not enough to make it cloudy. It...

Minikegs of Commercial Beer - Pouring Problem

No it still would not pour from the tap. I think the tap must have been blocked with sediment. I tried cleaning it with a pin but this did not help either.

Minikegs of Commercial Beer - Pouring Problem

I have solved the problem, though its not an ideal solution. Using a pair of scissors I removed the top centre bung and am pouring the beer out the top of the keg. Just as well I am off work tomorrow. Happy days are here again. :drink:

Minikegs of Commercial Beer - Pouring Problem

Hi I didnt know where to post this question as its not really a homebrew question. Last week I purchased two 5 litre minikegs from Strathaven Ales. One was there red ale "Claverhouse" and the other their 80 shilling called "Old Mortality" Anyway the Claverhouse has since been consumed...

    Coopers European Lager Review

I agree with this. I brewed this with 1kg of Coopers Brew Enhancer 2. It is an excellent, refreshing lager, just a bit light on flavour. That said better than most of the **** you can get in the supermarkets or even the pubs where I live. I was actually quite pleased with the results especially...

    which 1st

I did a Coopers European Lager kit with 1kg of Coopers Brew Enhancer about 8 weeks ago and have just cracked it open tonight. Although you are supposed to leave it 12 weeks before drinking I can say it is a pretty refreshing lager, a bit light on flavour but very easy drinking.

It's FRIDAY the weekend is here, what you drinking?

It is really good, you can tell its homebrew but it has much more flavour than anything you would buy in the shops. I added light dry malt and some hops to it. Its only the second brew Ive made (the last being 2 years ago) and its definitely put me in the mood to brew more. I'm tempted to go...
