    Bitter & Mild kit suggestions

If you have a Wilko's close by go and pick up the one can Newkie Brown kit they do - it's just rebadged Muntons Midland Mild - and is well worth a go.

    wilko offers finished

Yup - yeast was present and correct. Might be tempted to swap it out for the MJ Wheat Yeast though

    wilko offers finished

I picked up the Wheat Beer and Golden Ale for £10 in store today - checking online it seems these have been discontinued, along with the Tequila & Lime beer. The only 3kg 2 can kits Wilko's now stock is Wherry and Courage Directors

    Brilliant thanks for this

NEW! Festival Vienna Red Lager Beer Kit

Does it specify a specific temperature for the yeast? - Was interested in getting these kits, but wondered if this and the NZ Pilsner used a true lager yeast?

Wilkos FV, no airlock - do I snap lid fully shut?

I have the Wilko's FV and have never snapped the lid on fully, just place it on the rim with enough pressure so it doesn't fall off, or get knocked but is still loose enough to let the CO2 escape

Bulldog Four finger Jack American Pale ale.

This took 3 weeks for ferment fully out, and the Krausen only died down properly after about day 18, just in time to add the hops. Got it down to 1004 though. It's now been in the bottle 4 weeks, and hasn't yet cleared or fully carbed up - most odd. I have given the bottles a rouse to try and...

    Dry hopping with pellets

I think the reason is that the hops are not in as much contact with the Wort, and they can't move around as freely - thus it doesn't impart as much aroma / flavour.

    Dry hopping with pellets

I have always dry hopped just by chucking the pellets straight in, on about day 10 (of 14). You will need to have some kind of filter over your syphon, when bottling doing it this way - not a problem with the festival kits as you get one with it. I did do it once in a muslin bag, but it...

    St. Peters, India Pale Ale

All down to preference really I guess, but you can't go wrong with somewhere between 4 and 5g per litre for my taste.

    Krausen Not Dropping

Quick update on this after the weekend: It has now got down to somewhere in the region of 1005 and appears to have stopped. The krausen hasn't dropped appreciably, but it is slightly less foamy than last week. It has started to clear very slowly as well, so I can only conclude that the yeast...

    Krausen Not Dropping

I am going to take another reading tonight - although I can't see it dropping much more from where it is now - surely.

    Krausen Not Dropping

I have a Bulldog Four Finger Jack in the FV, currently on day 11. Started at 1046 as stated in the instructions, pitched the yeast and away it went within about 8 hours. The thing is the Krausen has not dropped, it is still bubbling away on top - not quite as high as initially, but certainly...

    Wilkinsons real ale kit.

Went for 80g myself - seemed spot on for my tastes

    Wilkinsons real ale kit.

I have brewed enough kits to know what's what, and I am 99% certain that this is a re badged Wherry kit. Nothing wrong with that though, as it was in the half price sale a few months ago, so I picked it up for £8. Brewed as per usual with 1tsp nutrient to 23l SG 1040 - FG 1012. Added 25g...

    Brewmaker, Old English Ale

Started one of these last weekend (21st), with some modifications Brewed short to 20 litres with approx 25g Fuggles and 100ml of Black Cherry Kriek Extract. I am not entirely sure what I was aiming for here, some kind of Belgian Cherry Old Ale I suppose. OG was 1050, and now after 10 days it...

    Yeast Nutrient

I used to suffer from a few stuck fermentations, until I started popping in some nutrient - no issues at all since that day. I find the one can kits do need some help - the 2 cans not so much. I have just into the habit of adding a tsp with every brew now

    Yeast Nutrient

Ok cheers guys - and thanks for the link. That will come in handy!

    Yeast Nutrient

I have always used the Brupacks Beer Yeast Nutrient with good results. Was just wondering if you could use Wine Yeast Nutrient in beer, does it contain the same ingredients that the yeast need reagrdless of what type of alcohol is being fermented??
