    What did you brew today?

Brewing has been a bit intermittent. Last brew was 1.5 Kilos of pale malt, 1.5 kilos of Amber malt and 1 kilo of smoked malt with 60g of Fuggles hops. Produced 15 litres at 1065. Interesting taste, not for a session though. Today just got 6K of extra pale with 50g each of Rakau and Wakatu hops...

    Drinking songs!

Can't find "Adnam's Ale" anywhere. Managed to breathe into the bag on two occasions and was clear.......just! Wouldn't get away with it a third time. Don

    Drinking songs!

Not exactly a drinking song... more of a reminder of my days as a mis-spent pensioner....

    Tesco India Pale Ale

Thanks for the replies. I agree, it's not bad for the price whoever brewed it. I'll certainly get a couple more next time I'm in Tesco. cheers Don

    Tesco India Pale Ale

Just noticed this in Tesco for £1.30 for 500ml bottle. Although it could have been around for ages. Just wondered who actually brews it. Haven't tasted it yet. Don

Life isn't all beer and skittles...

Funny you should say that. When I first started I had a first floor flat in West Ealing. Had to wait until I thought the neighbours were out before starting up! Luckily didn't get too many complaints and eventually moved to a house with a garage. What luxury.

Life isn't all beer and skittles...

I thought nothing was off topic in this section :) I have a Myford ML8 that I bought new about 1975. I had no mortgage and more money in those days. .Just had a visitor for another cup of tea, I think that's one per skittle so far, seven down and two to go but time to get the dinner on the go...

Life isn't all beer and skittles...

Doing them now, just came in for a break. Made the ball but it's not exactly spherical but I don't think anyone will notice after a few pints. Pole is the next job. Don

    Kettle elements

Hi, Steve, I thought I'd try one of these. What did you do for a nut? Is it a common plumbing item? Don

    Buffalo Boiler cc193

Thanks for the tip about the same elements being used. Looks like the brew turned out ok by the way. I don't have any plans for another one for the time being so I'll keep a look out but I think the way to go is the electric kettle element as a replacement Buffalo element is not going to last...

    Buffalo Boiler cc193

Had one of these for 18 months now and done a few successful brews. However, disaster struck this morning half an hour into a boil with the 13A plug top fuse blowing. Replaced the fuse and although it came back on it just about managed a slow boil. As I had no alternative I just carried on for a...

    HELP! New Buffalo Boiler

From what I understand from previous posts you can prize out some inserts on the bottom of the feet and it exposes the base fixing screws which hold the base and the feet on. I can't speak with any first hand experience as this version is a bit different to mine. There is, of course, an element...

    HELP! New Buffalo Boiler

Hi, Looks like there are some variations in the way they are put together. In the end I just made up a link with spade terminals and bypassed the thermal cut-out. The Baby Burco I had before didn't have one and I never had any problems. I believe it's there to prevent the element burning out if...

    HELP! New Buffalo Boiler

Hi. On my 40 litre boiler the six feet don't hold the base on. They are just pushed into holes. There are four Phillips head screws inboard of the feet to be undone . You may have to prise the base out. These boilers are made in China so don't expect the quality of Burco. Their main redeeming...

    Not quite Punk IPA

In this case Munton's Gold. Previous ones were Safale.

    Not quite Punk IPA

Thanks for the comment. I like the simple approach. Recent brews have been just pale malt with one variety of hop. This is the first brew for a while that has fermented right down, some have stalled at 1025, I wonder if it's because I used a double pack of yeast.
