Cold crashing?

Now that I've got my brew fridge, the prospect of cold crashing becomes a reality. It's not something I've paid much attention to before. I've got a few questions about the process, but the first ones, to those that have cold crashed. Is it a useful process and if so for all beers, or just...

    GH Black IPA Brewday

It's been ages since I last had a brew on! Finally get the chance today, continuing my journey through Greg Hughes' recipes. A 11.5 litre batch of Black IPA, with Apollo, Citra and Amarillo. Buffalo induction had the mash water up to speed in no time. New brew fridge at temp and ready for...

    Inkbird 308 general settings

I've rigged up my brew fridge and I'm running it through the Inkbird. Seems to be working fine at the moment. Just need to get some beer in it. Might have to wait until Monday. Just a couple of questions for those that use one of these. What parameters do you use for the Heating/Cooling...

    SS Brewtech @ Brewuk

I see that BrewUk are now stocking shiny shiny SS Brewtech gear! I've never had a problem with themaltmiller and always found their service excellent, but neither have I had an issue with BrewUk, so it's good to have an alternative supplier! Now, if only I could afford those Chronicals, or...

    Bank Holiday Summer Ale

After a spate of AG brews at the beginning of the Year, I've not had the opportunity to get the gear out for a couple of Months. So it felt good to get a Bank Holiday Brew day under my belt. This time it was Greg Hughes Summer Ale, with White Labs WLP007. It's the first Brew I've done with a...

    SS Brewtech 10 Gallon Kettle

I put my new brew kettle and Buffalo Induction Hob through it's paces the other day. I'm really pleased with both, but jeez the brew kettle is heavy! My previous pot was half the capacity and made out of steel tissue, so it was easy to lift. This though!! The empty pot is heavy enough, and...

    Pattersbier v1.1

I'm brewing my second GH Pattersbier tomorrow :thumb: This is my first recipe rebrew and I'm not going to stray too far from the original. I might add a small amount of Saaz at flame out. As the grain bill is 100% Pilsner Malt, I'm tempted to extend the boil to 90 mins, only because I've...

Palmers Brewery Tour (Pic Heavy - long thread!)

I've just come back from a weeks Hols in Dorset. We were staying just a short walk from Palmers Brewery, in Bridport, so I booked myself in for a Tour. The Palmers have owned the Brewery since the late Nineteenth Century, but it's been on site since 1794. [/IMG] The Brewery sits...

    Coming Home to Home Brew.

I've had a week away in Sunny(ish) Dorset. My trip included a Tour around the Palmers Brewery in Bridport (I've got some pictures I'll post when I get round to it). The local brew was very nice on cask, but in the main I stuck with bottle beers at our Holiday accommodation. I had two...

    Insulating Mash Tun

I'm wrapping my Coleman's Mash tun in Thermawrap and fixing it with foil tape (thermawrap is bubble wrap with foil bonded to both sides). I'm considering putting one layer on the underside of the lid, but concerned either the wrap or the tape might not be lovely for food purposes? Any thoughts?

    Impulse Buy

Me, Mini Kegs and the Party Star Tap (A tragic Tale)

I don't know what it is with me and these things. I bought a couple towards the end of last Year. I kegged a Kolsch, which was OK, but I had some trouble with the tap and the CO2 capsule and it ended up going flat very quickly. I'd bottled half the batch and I much preferred the bottled brew...

    Infected Bottles?

I did a quick check of my conditioning bottles this morning and I have an issue with one of my bottles. I think it's infected. It has a fine spidery growth in the neck, almost like a pellicle from a wild beer. It also has a head forming on the beer :nono: [/IMG] I opened up the...

GH North German Alt Brew Day

My Journey through Greg Hughes book continues, this time with the North German Alt. I'm using White Labs Kolsch Yeast from a previous brew with this one. Wort was beautifully dark after the mash. [/IMG] Pre boil wort sample. This shot was taken at 40C and it was virtually at the...

    Pubs with accommodation suggestions please

Mrs Halfacrem and I have a rare opportunity for a weekend without the kids next Month, as they are staying with my brother and Sister-In-Law in Farnborough  We're looking for a really nice proper Beer Pub (of course) which also does good food and has accommodation. Criteria...

Greg Hughes Cream Ale Brew Day

My Greg Hughes brewathon continues, this time with his Cream Ale Recipe. I don't recall having a Cream Ale in the past, so I'm looking forward with interest to sampling this! Mash has completed, so just getting ready for the boil. Here's a picture of a plastic picnic box with some Pale Malt...

White Labs 810 San Fran Lager Yeast Cell Count?

My next brew is Greg Hughes Cream Ale. I'm doing my usual 11.5 litre batch and I'm using White Labs 810 San Francisco Lager Yeast and fermenting as close to 15 degrees as I can. When I input the Yeast into Beersmith, it's telling me I need around 240 billion cells for this size of batch! Now...
