    Desperados!

Has anyone attempted to make a home brewed desperados type beer?? I have a cerveza kit, I have a bottle of Tequilla and some lime juice.... how hard can it be? Just not sure how much tequilla should go in and when. During the ferment or added afterward to each bottle and how much? Any help...

    Citric acid blunder!

Ok, so I’ve done a couple of Rose Petal wines, which have maintained the scent of the rose petals I used; that’s the fab bit. The not so fab bit is that on the second batch I did it from memory, turns out my memory is not what it used to be and I added 3tsp of citric acid instead of 2! The...

    Elderflower wine

Asks for a half ounce of dried flowers, whatever that is in new money I’m not sure, but sounds a lot less than 50g!!

    Elderflower wine

The recipe I do is from an old book, it asks for lemons and raisins but the citric acid and glycerine takes the faff away! I’ll check what it says about the numbers for using dried flowers.

    Lager kit

I started a geordie lager kit on the 4th October, however instead of making up to 40 pints i made up to 35, hoping for a little more quality out of it. My S.G. was 1046 on the 4/10, it is brewing in the garage so things were getting a little cold and by the 11/10 the S.G. had only dropped to...

    Dealing with 'cake'.

i know..... i brew in my garage and the bitter was barely fermenting because of fluctuating temps. I messed with it every day checking the temp and checking S.G. to see if it was doing anything :nono: Then i decided in my ultimate wisdom to put a submergable heater in. I sterilised it and...

brewmakers cider kit - not trying very hard!

I decided to have a go at a different cider kit to the usual magnums, so took advice from LHBS keeper and purchased a brewmakers cider kit. All went well, but it seems to be taking an age to clear and i'm not convinced its trying very hard! It was fermented in the garage so took a little longer...

    Vinometers

you're right about the cleaning..... have to fill the little top bit and suck it through so you know all the tube is full  , then leave to soak in sterilising stuff. When it comes to rinsing....same thing but sucking through clean water not so much of an issue. I tend to clean the...

    Vinometers

Can we trust the results from a vinometer in terms of %? I recently completed a batch of wine and due to not having a hydrometer (stood on it), was unable to take an O.G. When i came to bottle it i tested it with a new vinometer, it said 15%! I have since done a test where i have taken the...

    Wine bottle label removal

some labels react better to hot water and some to cold..... and some just dont budge (Bombadier bitter bottles!) I guess it depends what the companies have welded them on with! Soak overnight in cold water, if they're gonna come off easy then they'll just fall off....ala magners, kopperburg...
