    £120- All grain kit ideas

Will having only a single element make much of a difference to how long it takes to boil?

    £120- All grain kit ideas

Is that the £163 one with no thermostat? £30 more is quite alot atm for, wouldn't be able to afford to go to sixth form for 2 weeks :P What would I use as an immersion chiller? Is there much difference in getting the double element one compared to single?

1st attempt at lager - open or closed?

Just been through exactly the same thing as you, started up my first lager on friday.. I got mixed replies saying you can seal lid completely shut, have it partly sealed with a gap or just have it loose on top so I guess it doesn't make too much difference so long as it's covering the FV This...

    homebrewing laws

Could you not say he is paying for your time... And the beer is a gift? Or you give him the beer free... And he decides he'd like to randomly give you money but it's completely unrelated to your beer giving

Would anyone be willing to send samples?

I'm new to the home brewing thing and I haven't actually tried that many ales and beers, commercial or not.. Would it be possible for anyone to send me a bottle of what they have brewed at home? I'd rather try home brewed than commercial to get an idea of what can be done. I can send money...

I threw the wrapping from the kit tin away :( I'll use the hydrometer now, if I started the brew on friday at about half 4 what should my gravity reading be around now if its going well? Just done it and at the minute its around 1016, does that mean it's nearing drinking time? :drunk:

    Not fermenting?

I've been doing my first kit the other day, spoke to a few people on the forum about it but it doesn't seem to be bubbling or anything at all and its been 2 days? It had a slight layer of bubbles on it but hardly anything really... Should I give it a stir to see if I can wake it up a bit? Or...
