    AG Wheat beer aftertaste

Many thanks guys. I added the additional dry hopping as I wasn't too happy with the balance. I added the saaz as thought the mittlefrueh alone wasn't all that nice aromawise (I think I may be becoming a saaz addict). Yeast wise I avoided wheat yeasts partially cost partially to avoid bananarama...

Oh and I used safale s04. I really didn't want one of those banana / clove style things.

    AG Wheat beer aftertaste

Hi, I've recently made my first AG wheat beer. It's had a week at room temp and a week in the fridge. I know it's too early etc etc but since I first bottled it I noticed a distinct different taste. I've just tried it today and it's not as obvious but still there. At first the beer tastes...

    Gunk in my bottled lager

When you "bottle condition" your beer you will always get some sediment in the bottle. No doubt before you bottled your brew you either added sugar to your bottles or you whole batch. This sugar was to carbonate the lager. The whole process of the yeast using the sugar to carbonate the brew...

    Anyone else addicted to Marmite?

I don't think I've ever tried it....though from the sounds of things it's perhaps a good thing. One day you start off eating it socialy when you've had a drink..the next thing you know you're stealing car stereos to sustain a jar a day habit, you're eating it, drinking it and cleaning your teeth...

The Dumming down of home brew??

Just come across this: http://www.firebox.com/product/3116/DIY-Hooch-Kit My favorite parts are "Wait 48 hours... hey presto an alcoholic juice!" and "pour in the magic powder". Seriously Magic powder!! What's wrong with telling people it takes yeast to ferment sugar?? :drink:

    Intensive testing

Yep might be a lot easier to sell than if you start talking about esters, off flavours and fusel alcohols. :drink:

    Intensive testing

I wonder if non-brewers would believe that hangovers are science related?? ;)

AG #1 The Amber Lager (aka the rise of the tiny shiny)

Hiya, Glad to be of use ok here goes: I probably washed the mash about 3 times. I used the sieve for this but also added water to the mash tun a couple of times once the initial mash water had been taken off. It's all a bit messy and a bit hodge podge but it's ok for a start. Brewmate gave a...

Purging the head space with CO2

Seems a lot of expense to buy CO2 cyliders and a head set just for this. With the CO2 being heavier than air you won't loose it by doing brief hop drops. If you're really worried about oxidation have you thought of getting a carboy either 1 large or a few cheap plastic 5ltr water bottles? If you...

There's a malt chart in The Homebrew Handbook. You can actually see it on the "look inside" option, it's on page 21. :drink:

Hey and if the beer making doesn't work out, you could always turn to the seemingly lucrative world of vampire novel writing. ;) :drink:

    Mini brews - Possible?

No worries. Only thing I'd say is that most folks seem to only use the plastic fermenters for a limited number of brew (5ish). I think this is cos if the plastic gets scratched inside it can hang on to germs etc. I chucked one the other day cos I couldn't be bothered to wash all the hops out...I...
