Back to Brewing and possible problem re temps...

Ok, I'll rack it off and let it stand for a couple of weeks and see if there is an improvement. Nothing to lose and I have a spare FV it can sit in. Might get a batch underway just in case, and I'll stick with the s-05 until it gets a bit colder out. It's all good :)

Back to Brewing and possible problem re temps...

Ok, I just took a sample of each. Both have reached their FG, so the numbers at least are good. The S-04 batch does have a slight 'hot' taste, is there anything I can do about that? I guess it is fusel alcohol from the slightly high temp? The s-05 batch tastes fine - at least fine for a...

Back to Brewing and possible problem re temps...

You know I have never tasted it during the process, I always thought it best to leave it be :-? If I take a gravity reading I guess I could sample the sample  Thanks for the birthday wishes, she is rather excited with the day.. I might hide away and get a brew on in the garage

Back to Brewing and possible problem re temps...

Hiya, yeasts weren't exotic as haven't got back into making starters yet, so one was a packet of S-04, the other a packet of S-05. It's like fretting over the first born all over again :D

Back to Brewing and possible problem re temps...

Hi all, It's been a while, but with the long and warm summer period I didn't bother to brew as I knew temp control would be nigh on impossible. So, with the change of weather, I joyfully dug out my bag, my boiler and my grain, and set about making two batches. A citrus IPA, and an roughly...

    No Chill Cube

No cons that I can see, have one cooling as I type. From boiler into cube, leave to cool, into FV tomorrow and pitch yeast. Means I can brew in the evenings

    Back in the saddle

With the warm weather definitely gone, meaning I can keep fermentation cool enough indoors, I got back to brewing this evening with a 23l brew length BIAB. Good to get the Buffalo boiler firing again, and all went to plan. Maris otter base approx 3.4 kg Crystal 10 about .230 kg Crystal 80...

    Growing Hops??

Yep, I've found some Cascade and some Fuggles in potted form, am guessing this would be ok to plant out now?

    Growing Hops??

Would now be too late to sensibly be ordering and planting out some hop plants? As in supplied with a little growth and not rhizomes?

Today could be a brew day...

Well batch 1, the citra PA is now in a no chill cube in the back garden, and the grain and hops are weighed out for a 6x/London Pride cross. Nearly at strike temp in the garage, so time to clean the kitchen and restore order before the other half and kids get home!!!

Today could be a brew day...

hahaha well it is looking decidely dodgy for more than one batch sue to a stack of invoices that I can't find! Aaaaaaargh! All the figures in Quickbooks add up, just need to put the supporting papers with them and I am home and dry.. at least until the Accountant calls me in  Might...

Today could be a brew day...

I have grain and hops ready to make up 3 batches (a 6x clone, a citra based Pale Ale, and a 'chuck it together and see what happens' ale). Now I do have to spend the day at home pulling together a set of accounts to get to the accountant tomorrow, so in turn he can save my bacon and submit them...

    Cocoa nibs

I bought them in a local 'hippy' health food shop :) I also saw some in Sainsburys that looked similar packaging. When I poured it all in it smelt like a rich chocolate liquor :)

    Cocoa nibs

Well they've been in the vodka for 8 hours, so should be sterile I guess... I'll go cuck 'em in :thumb:

    Cocoa nibs

A bit of both to be honest, I figured it would sterilise them and aid the flavour extraction as I plan to add the lot in.

    Cocoa nibs

Hi all, Well my stout has finished fermenting at day 10, reaching its target 1011 FG from a SG of 1045. I plan to add in some cocoa nibs for 4 or 5 days before bottling, and have 150gms sitting in a little vodka in the fridge, by eck they smell gorgeous! 2 questions really, first up how long...

    North Korea

whilst I wouldn't want anything to kick off, surely there has to be a way to "spank this little tossers ****" and deliver aid and freedom/fair rule to the people of North Korea? If for no other reason than he has a face you just want to slap!
