    Recommend me a stainless FV

Hey guys, I've not been on this forum for a long time.. having two small children put an end to the free time I used for brewing! I started with kits and got into BIAB brewing before I stopped. I use a stainless pot for the brew, cornelius kegs to dispense, and currently have a number of...

    New shiny pots

I tried to order directly from them about 12 months ago and they told me they could not accept orders from the UK anymore... I take it that has changed again? What sort of cost are you looking at for a 32L thermopot? I might move from BIAB to a three vessel set up if the price is right!

    Corny keg carbonation

Guys, thanks for your answers and apologies for the late reply! I think I've cracked it now. I pressurised the kegs to 30psi, shook them about, and left them overnight. I then did the same thing the next day, then left them a week until the stag do. Once there, I vented off the excess pressure...

    Corny keg carbonation

Hey guys, I used my corny kegs for the first time on my last brew, with mixed results. They are 9L kegs, pin lock, and I'm using a tap attached directly to the disconnect, with the idea of it being fairly portable. I filled them and hooked up the CO2, and set the regulator to about 30PSI...

    Fuggles SMaSH

I've found pellets a lot better for aroma, but then ive used US hop pellets with higher AAs vs English whole hops with lower AAs, so maybe that's a factor too. In the end I went with some more American hops.. Columbus to bitter, then Amarillo and Citra for flavour and finishing. One of the...

    Fuggles SMaSH

Thanks for the input guys. I am struggling to find time just to do the one brew, so I think I'll go and get some more hops. I might try another Citra recipe, maybe with Simcoe or similar. On another note, I seem to have much better results with pellet hops rather than whole... Does anyone...

    Fuggles SMaSH

Hey guys, I've had some great results lately with US hops... An Amarillo SMaSH that was awesome, then a Columbus and Citra recipe that was the best I've done so far. Anyway I've got a stag weekend coming up in a couple of months and wanted to brew something for that, and thought of using...

portable co2 system for corny keg

I got a converted CO2 fire extinguisher, it's a good deal smaller than a regular bottle. I'm looking at maybe getting a paintball bottle for portability though. My local CO2 supplier will fill them, I just need to find a nice small regulator I think...

    Force carbing with corny kegs

Hey guys, I've recently got some corny kegs, and a converted fire extinguisher as a co2 tank. It's all finally working now when tested with water in the kegs. So... Now I need to get some beer in there! I have a nice Citra / Columbus pale ale than will be ready to keg next week, but I just...

    what do you drive

I think it was me mentioning my car that inspired this thread... That GT40 puts me to shame though! I'm slowly fixing up my 1966 mk1 Morris Mini. I had to learn to weld to fix this one up, and so far it's had new floors, new boot floor, new rear arches, new sills and door steps, and various...

    Gas options for new cornies..

Hey guys, I know this has been asked a lot, but I'm after some advice when using cornelius kegs. I went a bit mad on eBay recently, and now have two 9L kegs and a 19L keg. The plan was to use the 9L kegs for parties and weekends away, as they're nice and portable. I'll then bottle the...

    Biab

The cost of the electricity is easy to work out... A 2.75kw element is using 2.75kwh per hour, and each kWh is about 12p (I think, it's on your bill anyway). So just work that out for number of elements and time used. So probably about £2 a brew.

    Biab

I'd recommend electric elements, although people use dedicated large gas burners too, just I thought electric was easier. I have a range cooker with 7 hobs, including a wok burner, so I thought I'd be fine with my 50L pot on that. Wrong. I could get it over 3 of the burners, and even then the...

    Biab

I do biab with 23l brew length. I use a 50L pan with two 2.75kw elements fitted... Don't do what I did to start off with, and think 30L plus of water will boil on your gas hob... It might do eventually but the wait will be agonising and the boil will be ****, and you can't insulate the pot due...

    reusing plastic water bottles?

I bottle most of my beer in 2l plastic bottles... I buy Sainsburys spring water (17p per bottle!) and use the water to clean out the FV etc, and fill them up with beer. The only trouble is you really need to drink all 2l over two days at most as it soon goes flat once opened.

hop pellets, boil or add late ?

Then I'd guess, having not seen it, that the video is of an AG or extract brew, not a kit. You can add those hops on day one if you like, but leaving them in too long can produce grassy flavours, so they get added for the last five days or so. Also, adding them at the start of fermentation...

hop pellets, boil or add late ?

When you're talking about 'premium kits', do you mean kits with liquid extract where you just add water and yeast, then dry hop towards the end of fermentation? Or do you mean kits for all grain brewing that are designed to replicate a certain beer?

    Off flavours with certain yeast...?

Yeah I had thought it might be temperature.. I was fermenting indoors, and initially I mistakenly thought my beer needed to sit at about 24-26c. This didn't seem to affect my kit brews though. AG1 was probably a bit too warm, but the more recent ones have been out in the garage where it's...

hop pellets, boil or add late ?

Kits don't involve any boiling. Add the hops after fermentation finishes, leave them in for 5 days or so, then bottle.

    Off flavours with certain yeast...?

Hey guys, Sorry for the long post, but I've got a problem with off flavours in my beer and thought I'd ask if others have had the same. I made the switch from kits to BIAB all grain brewing this year, and I've now done five AG brews. The first one was my 50l boiler on the gas hob, and I had...
